SUMMARY:24th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion - IUHPE 2022
DESCRIPTION:The 24th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion (IUHPE 2022) will be held from May 15 to 19\, 2022\, in Montréal (Québec\, Canada)\, and online\, across the world. This major hybrid event of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education is co-organized by the School of Public Health of the Université de Montréal in collaboration with the INSPQ\, the Montréal Regional Directorate of Public Health as part of the ‘CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal\,’ the CHUM\, and the CHU Sainte-Justine. \nThe theme for the 24th IUHPE World Conference is Promoting policies for health\, well-being and equity. Such a focus is integral to the body of knowledge and action employed by the international health promotion community. IUHPE 2022 aims to lay a foundation for better and fairer systems responses to old\, recurrent\, and new issues in the promotion of global health and well-being. \nThrough both onsite and online events\, this hybrid conference will provide a platform to frame opportunities to challenge conventional wisdom. IUHPE 2022 Scientific Committees outline three areas of debate for health promotion to grow: \nBreaking news – consider the promise and opportunities of disruptions and tipping points\, whether it is in pandemic health challenges (and particularly ‘syndemics’\, such as the one between COVID19\, non-communicable disease and inequitably affected populations)\, climate change and ecological disruption\, geopolitical shifts\, social unrest and technological promise. \nBreaking free – from world-views that favour only market solutions\, classical divides between North and South\, toward emancipatory decolonising practices\, policies and knowledge systems. Building on health promotion legacies in health equity and Indigenous health\, both in IUHPE and beyond\, we can see better futures. \nBreaking through – disciplines\, silos\, boundaries and identities that are engrained in our practices and understandings. We seek innovation.  From embracing ‘pracademics’ and ‘boundary spanners’ to inspiring activist entrepreneurs – our meeting is a platform for you. \nSTART PLANNING! \nApril 2021: Abstract submission opens\nMay 2021: Online registration opens \nLearn more about the programme\, important dates and the latest news by visiting our website iuhpe2022.com and by consulting our presentation flyer in English and French (in the News section). \nFor any questions\, please contact the IUHPE 2022 Conference Secretariat – JPdL: iuhpe2022@jpdl.com

SUMMARY:Using New Country Data on Unintended Pregnancy and Abortion Incidence for Maximum Advocacy and Policy Impact
DESCRIPTION:The Guttmacher Institute\, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Human Reproduction Programme (HRP) recently released new estimates of unintended pregnancy and abortion incidence for 150 countries. This includes 87 countries that never have had reliable evidence on these measures from official statistics or scientific studies. Top-line insights from this study will be presented by Dr. Bela Ganatra\, Head of the Prevention of Unsafe Abortion Unit at WHO\, and Dr. Jonathan Bearak\, Senior Research Scientist at the Guttmacher Institute; policy recommendations will be shared by Irum Taqi\, Consultant Global Policy Advisor; dissemination and advocacy recommendations will be shared by Veronika Cernadas\, Associate Director of Global Communications \nThis event will include a question-and-answer session and simultaneous interpretation into French and Spanish. SUMMARY:Peace: Beyond the absence of war
DESCRIPTION:Spur Change\, in partnership with l’Association québécoise des organismes de coopération internationale (AQOCI)\, is inviting small and medium organizations (SMOs)\, educators and youth from coast-to-coast-to-coast to its Annual National Conference “Peace: Beyond the absence of war” which will take place from May 17 to 19\, 2022 at the Bonaventure Hotel\, in downtown Montreal. \nPeace is more than the absence of war or armed conflict. To build sustainable peace\, should we not also urgently take into consideration social and environmental justice\, food safety and sovereignty\, freedom of movement\, respect for human rights and decolonization? Moreover\, we cannot ignore that the pandemic has significantly intensified inequalities threatening peace around the world. \nThrough discussion panels\, training\, peer sharing workshops and artistic content\, we will delve deeper into the notion of peace and explore ways in which a culture of peace can be nourished within international solidarity\, small and medium organizations and global citizenship education. We will also focus on the importance of gender equality and intersectional analysis to help develop inclusive\, sustainable and efficient solutions to address structural and systemic barriers to peace. We will explore how these structural causes intersect with other dynamics of repression and violence and systemic issues. \nDuring this 3-day conference\, over a hundred small and medium-sized organizations\, teachers and youth will join together to consider these questions\, explore solutions and share possible courses of action to build a peaceful world. \nThe deadline to submit an application is January 28\, 2022: Eventbrite.ca \n
