SUMMARY:CPHIA side event: Defeating malaria through equitable partnerships
DESCRIPTION:Dear colleagues and partners attending the 2023 Conference on Public Health in Africa\, \nYou are warmly invited to a side event entitled “Defeating malaria through equitable partnerships” organized by Medicines for Malaria Venture and The Tropical Diseases Research Centre\, Zambia. \nWhile significant strides have been made in the last two decades to defeat malaria\, today\, progress is stalling. In 2021\, malaria claimed nearly 619\,000 lives worldwide and over 245 million malaria cases were reported. Over the years\, many partnerships have worked to achieving the goal of eradicating malaria. \nIn this side event\, experts will shed light on how equitable partnerships between key stakeholders in malaria-endemic countries and other actors in the global malaria community can be the building blocks for the development of sustainable R&D and access strategies for malaria elimination. \nKey takeaways: \n· Insights: Gain insights from African leaders and experts on the front lines of malaria elimination. \n· Solutions: Discover solutions and success stories that are driving progress in response to seasonal malaria surges\, severe malaria and medical supply insecurity. \n· Challenges: Understand the challenges equitable partnerships encounter and learn how they can be surmounted. \nModerator: \n Joy Phumaphi\, African Leaders Malaria Alliance and MMV Medicines for Malaria Venture Board \nConfirmed Speakers: \n Christine Manyando\, Tropical Diseases Research Centre\, Zambia \n Eric Nebié\, National Institute of Public Health (INSP)\, Burkina Faso \n Alice Neequaye\, MMV Medicines for Malaria Venture\, Switzerland \n Ngashi Ngongo\, Africa CDC\, Ethiopia \nPlease RSVP by November 20th\, 2023 to secure your place at this event. SUMMARY:MinoFest 2023
DESCRIPTION:MinoFest\, formerly the Racialized Maternal Health Conference\, is the only conference of its kind in North America\, and is the premier event shaping the future of perinatal care for Black and racialized birthing persons. \nMinoFest 2023 will take place on November 30 at the Design Exchange in Toronto. We have carefully curated an enriching program that includes inspiring keynote speakers\, thought-provoking panel discussions\, and engaging workshops. This event is an opportunity to unite and learn from experts in the field\, share experiences\, and collectively address crucial challenges in perinatal health. \nEarly Bird Pricing Available Until September 5! \nYour ticket gives you full access to conference programming\, food and beverage (breakfast\, lunch\, and beverages will be served)\, and our Opening Night Party (6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.). \nCelebrating Holistic Motherhood & Perinatal Health \nMinoFest is inspired by the term “Mino”\, which is a term in the Fon Language which means “Our Mothers”. It was used to describe the Dahomey Amazons\, who were an all female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey (Benin). Although the Mino did not have their own children\, they were viewed as warriors\, advocates\, protectors\, caregivers\, and mother figures to their communities. We firmly believe in celebrating a holistic experience of motherhood\, parenting and perinatal health that engages all aspects of the full experience of Black and racialized birthing persons and parents. Whether you are nurturing and safeguarding your family or your community\, we recognize and appreciate the invaluable work you do each day to uplift us all. \nClick here for more information and to register!

SUMMARY:Who has power? Agency in Development and Justice
DESCRIPTION:Join World Renew\, Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ)\, and International Justice Mission (IJM) Canada on February 7 at Redeemer University. Learn how our programs are removing barriers to agency and contributing to holistic community development. \nInspired by our faith\, we believe that our international development activities must acknowledge and honour the unique image of God in each person involved. In relation to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals\, this means that all efforts must continue to centre the agency of the individuals and communities most impacted by injustice and inequality. \n– World Renew as a Sponsorship Agreement Holder with the Canadian government\, will be highlighting its experience partnering with individuals and Constituent Groups across Canada to support refugees overseas to resettle in Canada.\n– IJM seeks to end the everyday violences that violates human rights and prevents sustainable development. IJM will highlight why every intervention to combat human trafficking\, forced labour\, sexual abuse\, and gender-based violence must be trauma-informed and survivor-led.\n– CPJ as a national policy advocacy organization works to center public justice in policy debates. CPJ will highlight how its work on refugee and migrant rights – such as campaigns to end immigration detention and securing healthcare access for all regardless of immigration status – aims to strengthen the agency of those who migrate or seek asylum in Canada. \nClick here to register!

DESCRIPTION:This side event addresses the persistent challenges hindering the achievement of SDGs\, particularly SDG5 and SDG8\, with a focus on unpaid care work’s critical role and grassroots institutions in the achievement of economic empowerment\, especially for women.
\nRegister here!

Brutalized and then abandoned\, Sira begins another long journey across the arid landscape to return to her community. But the path she has chosen leads her right into the assailants’ camp. Refusing to surrender to circumstances\, she decides to remain near the camp\, living off the land and out of sight\, preparing for her moment to strike back. \nSIRA was presented at the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) in Burkina Faso. The film was awarded a special prize by WaterAid for addressing the problem of access to water for women and girls in the Sahel\, in a context marked by climate change. Traoré also became a WaterAid Ambassador on WASH and Climate change. SIRA made its North American debut at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). \nClick here to register!
