SUMMARY:Child Marriage Roundtable: Unpacking Gender Violence
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, 12 million girls are married before they turn 18. That is 22 girls every minute whose childhood\, dreams and education are cut short. The numbers are almost unfathomable: 650 million women and girls alive today were married as children – some organizations put this number as high as 700 million\, or just under 10% of the global population. \nJoin us on Thursday\, December 7th at 10:00 a.m. ET for a roundtable discussion with a panel of industry experts as we discuss this tragic form of gender-based violence. \nThere are many factors at play when a child ends up in an early or forced marriage. Most commonly\, girls from marginalized communities\, often in fragile or conflict-affected settings are the most at risk with poverty\, gender inequality\, tradition\, limited access to education and socially normalized perceptions of protection all contributing to what is at its core\, a fundamental violation of human rights. \nClick here to register!
