DESCRIPTION:The barriers to access to services faced by women with disabilities in all their diversity\, combined with systemic intersectional discrimination and gender-based violence\, hinder their empowerment and undermine progress towards gender equality in the broadest sense. Drawing on the successful experiences of activists with disabilities from Senegal\, Benin and Togo\, our event will pave the way for innovations in access to civil status\, public health and justice services\, and social protection. SUMMARY:CSW68 Parallel Event: Intersectional perspectives on climate change and poverty reduction in Africa
DESCRIPTION:In a world where the most marginalized are most affected by climate change\, structural inequalities due to sexism and ableism exacerbate women’s poverty and prevent them from engaging in transformative action. Speakers will tackle the pressing persisting challenges faced by women with intersecting identities ; showing how women with disabilities in Rwanda are agents of change\, promoting gender- and disability-just climate adaptation. An intersectional indigenous perspective from Kenya will be discussed.
