SUMMARY:Women\, Life\, Freedom: Global Implications of the Women-Led Uprising in Iran
DESCRIPTION:The women’s uprising in Iran has captivated the world. The death of Mahsa Amini in government custody in September sparked protests all over Iran. What started out as a spontaneous women’s resistance has grown and evolved into a sustained cross-sectoral movement calling not only for reform of repressive policies in relation to women\, but for structural changes in society. \nJoin us for an event addressing the situation in Iran and its global implications. We will have a panel discussion consisting of Iranian women who will offer an analysis of the uprising in Iran\, followed by another panel of women active in the women’s movements across different regions who will discuss the global implications of this women-led uprising. The event will showcase how feminists from around the world are working together to build global solidarity in their advocacy for structural change. A dedicated conversation will be held with UN Women senior leadership as part of the event to discuss and present key feminist asks from the NGO CSWs in the Regions and other global women’s movements. Finally\, we will discuss concrete steps for building global solidarity for feminist advocacy purposes. \nThis event is presented by the NGO CSWs in the Regions and sponsored by The New York Women’s Foundation and Iranian American Women’s Foundation\, in partnership with UN Women. \nREGISTER HERE

DESCRIPTION:Since the first ICFP in Kampala\, Uganda in 2009\, the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) has served as a strategic inflection point for the global reproductive health community\, providing a global stage for countries\, organizations\, and individuals to make important commitments and celebrate achievements as the world’s largest scientific conference on family planning and reproductive health. \nICFP has become much more than a conference – it has grown into a platform for researchers\, advocates\, governments and communities; a movement towards achieving access to family planning for all; and a growing community guided by the spirit of partnership\, inclusivity\, innovation and scientific rigor. \nAs the larger family planning community looks “beyond 2020” to realign our goals and reposition for the future of family planning\, ICFP 2022 will be a strategic benchmark as the community prepares to recommit to a goal of universal access by 2030. \n\nRegister here

Dr. Herminia Palacio is the President and CEO of the Guttmacher Institute. She leads the organization in fulfilling its mission to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights in the United States and globally. Dr. Palacio has dedicated her career to advancing health equity; she enjoys more than 25 years of experience across a broad range of sectors\, including academic and clinical medicine\, governmental public health and philanthropy. \nPrior to joining the Guttmacher Institute\, Dr. Palacio served as Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services for the City of New York. She also practiced clinical medicine for nearly 20 years\, including almost 15 years at San Francisco General Hospital during the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. She has held a number of full-time or adjunct academic appointments\, including at the University of Texas School of Public Health\, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and the University of California\, San Francisco\, School of Medicine. Dr. Palacio currently serves as a member on the CUNY Board of Trustees and the RPA Board of Directors. \nAdditionally\, she is serving as a member of the Commonwealth Fund Commission on a National Public Health System. Dr. Palacio received her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York\, a master of public health from the University of California\, Berkeley\, School of Public Health and a BA in biology from Barnard College at Columbia University. DESCRIPTION:Please join Maternal and Infant Health Canada (a global public health collaborative devoted to improving wellbeing of the environment\, young ones and those who identify as women) and the Global Women’s Health Network (an alumni group of the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health Takemi program in International Health) for a webinar that is open to all\, free of charge. We host webinars every two months. Participants will be able to identify at least 3 problems created by current practices in this arena and proposed public policy solutions to address them.\n\nDr. Judy Norsigian is a co-founder of Our Bodies Ourselves. She served as executive director of the organization from 2001 to 2015 and is currently the chair of the OBOS Board of Directors. Judy has been an author and editor for each of the nine editions of Our Bodies\, Ourselves\, the organization’s landmark book on sexuality and reproductive health. Personal recognitions include an honorary doctorate from Boston University (2007). Additional honors include: being named one of 21 Leaders for the 21st Century by Women’s eNews; Public Service Award from the Massachusetts Public Health Association; Radcliffe College Alumnae Association Annual Recognition Award; Boston YWCA’s Academy of Women Achievers; and the Massachusetts Health Council Award.\n\nKatie Hasson\, PhD\, is the Associate Director of the Center for Genetics and Society\, a public interest nonprofit that works to ensure an equitable future where human genetic and reproductive technologies benefit the common good. She writes\, speaks\, researches\, and teaches about the social and political aspects of human genome editing and reproductive technologies. The third town hall will be taking place on November 29\, 2022 focusing on the Asian region. DESCRIPTION:As the global focus on climate change deepens\, there is an opportunity to elevate the dialogue on the need for stronger policies and resource dedication to human health within the climate change mitigation and adaptation framework. Africa Dialogues will bring together thought leaders\, policymakers\, climate activists and health experts to unpack the linkages between climate change and health and spearhead discussions on what must be done to position health at the heart of climate action plans. \nObjectives of the Webinar \nThis session will aim to: \n1. DESCRIPTION:About the webinar \nWe are delighted to be joined by IIPHG\, Professor\, Dr. Kranti Suresh Vora. \nDr Kranti Suresh Vora is an obstetrician turned public health professional. She had her medical degrees from India\, MBBS DGO & MD from B. J. Medical College\, Ahmedabad. Dr Vora did her MPH at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health\, Baltimore\, USA and PhD from University of Maryland\, College Park\, USA.  Dr Vora received Bill and Melinda Gates Scholarship for MPH and international teaching fellowship at University of Maryland\, College Park. \nDr Vora has worked at Indian Institute of Management\, Ahmedabad and a joint project of UNFPA and Govt. of Gujarat\, before joining Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar in 2012. Dr Vora has collaborated internationally with Karolinka Institutet\, University of Aberdeen\, McGIll University and University of Canberra among others. Her areas of interest includes Reproductive child health\, Health policy\, Health System strengthening\, Implementation research\, Demographic Surveillance\, Health innovations and Cancer research \nIn this webinar\, Dr. Vora will discuss her experience working with tribal populations when it comes to reproductive health.  Learning objectives from the seminar: \n\nTo understand marginalization of tribal population\nChallenges of working in tribal area for reproductive health\nSatisfaction of working in tribal areas\n\nDr. Vora will also be on hand to answer your questions throughout the webinar as well as at the end of the webinar. \nWe look forward to seeing you there. \nClick here to register!

SUMMARY:Navigating Uncertainty in Human Development
DESCRIPTION:On a global scale\, uncertainty has taken on many faces – the war in Ukraine\, a decline in the global Human Development Index\, economic instability\, and climate disasters\, among others – which is leading to a myriad of disruptions in day-to-day living. \nAs stated within the 2021-2022 UNDP Human Development Report\, “The hero and the villain in today’s uncertainty story are one in the same: human choice.” How can our continued choices influence our world of tomorrow? \nAs part of Canada’s International Development Week\, AKFC and Cooperation Canada are hosting an event centered on moving forward in uncertainty. The 2021-2022 UNDP Human Development Report will serve as the basis for an important discussion amongst policy makers and senior leaders in international development\, on uncertainty and the responsibilities we all have in advancing human development. \nMr. Pedro Conceição\, Head of the Human Development Report Office and Lead Author of the report\, will deliver a keynote address to highlight the key themes of the report\, followed by his participation in a panel discussion. DESCRIPTION:February 16 @ 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm EST\n\n\n\nThe gatherings hosted by the ARC Hub during Black History Month will serve as closed safe(r) spaces for Black folks across our sector. For networking\, learning\, and community\, these spaces will happen once a week for February. The themes will be: Imagining the future of international cooperation\, what the community needs from us\, sharing experiences as Black folks in the sector\, and care.
