DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to join CanWaCH and Results Canada for a civil society roundtable with the World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Africa\, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti\, who will be visiting Ottawa on November 23-25 to meet with Canadian senior officials and parliamentarians. This represents the highest-level visit from the WHO to Ottawa in years. \nDr. Moeti is keen to engage civil society partners during her visit. DESCRIPTION:Please join Maternal and Infant Health Canada (a global public health collaborative devoted to improving wellbeing of the environment\, young ones and those who identify as women) and the Global Women’s Health Network (an alumni group of the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health Takemi program in International Health) for a webinar that is open to all\, free of charge. We host webinars every two months. Participants will be able to identify at least 3 problems created by current practices in this arena and proposed public policy solutions to address them.\n\nDr. Judy Norsigian is a co-founder of Our Bodies Ourselves. She served as executive director of the organization from 2001 to 2015 and is currently the chair of the OBOS Board of Directors. Judy has been an author and editor for each of the nine editions of Our Bodies\, Ourselves\, the organization’s landmark book on sexuality and reproductive health. Personal recognitions include an honorary doctorate from Boston University (2007). Additional honors include: being named one of 21 Leaders for the 21st Century by Women’s eNews; Public Service Award from the Massachusetts Public Health Association; Radcliffe College Alumnae Association Annual Recognition Award; Boston YWCA’s Academy of Women Achievers; and the Massachusetts Health Council Award.\n\nKatie Hasson\, PhD\, is the Associate Director of the Center for Genetics and Society\, a public interest nonprofit that works to ensure an equitable future where human genetic and reproductive technologies benefit the common good. She writes\, speaks\, researches\, and teaches about the social and political aspects of human genome editing and reproductive technologies. DESCRIPTION:About the webinar \nWe are delighted to be joined by IIPHG\, Professor\, Dr. Kranti Suresh Vora. \nDr Kranti Suresh Vora is an obstetrician turned public health professional. She had her medical degrees from India\, MBBS DGO & MD from B. J. Medical College\, Ahmedabad. DESCRIPTION:On a global scale\, uncertainty has taken on many faces – the war in Ukraine\, a decline in the global Human Development Index\, economic instability\, and climate disasters\, among others – which is leading to a myriad of disruptions in day-to-day living. \nAs stated within the 2021-2022 UNDP Human Development Report\, “The hero and the villain in today’s uncertainty story are one in the same: human choice.” How can our continued choices influence our world of tomorrow? \nAs part of Canada’s International Development Week\, AKFC and Cooperation Canada are hosting an event centered on moving forward in uncertainty. The history of Black Canadians is an\nparticularly diverse one – from the story of Black Canadians in Africville\, to the wave of African\n& Caribbean migrants that arrived in Canada over the course of the 60s and 80s\, and now at\npresent day – the history of revolution and resistance is a recurring theme that is prevalent\namongst Black communities. This Black History Month not only are we taking a moment to\nexplore our past\, but we are also taking the time to celebrate the work of contemporary Black\nscholars\, activists\, and leaders from our local communities. \nDilaye Desta will be moderating this discussion &; will go through a series of questions that\nhighlight our panelists & views and the passion behind their work. SUMMARY:Launch: Inequality Monitoring in Sexual\, Reproductive\, Maternal\, Newborn\, Child and Adolescent Health eLearning course
DESCRIPTION:Inequities in sexual\, reproductive\, maternal\, newborn\, child and adolescent health (SRMNCAH) throughout the world mean that certain population subgroups have systematically worse health outcomes and poorer access to services and interventions than others. Addressing inequities in SRMNCAH is central to achieving universal health coverage\, protecting human rights\, advancing gender equality\, combating discrimination and improving the social determinants of health. Making progress in each of these areas is also vital to achieve WHO’s Triple Billion targets and accelerate towards the health-related SDGs. \nRegular monitoring and review of inequalities in SRMNCAH by stakeholders at regional\, national and subnational levels is critical for evidence based decision making. The results of this inequality monitoring can also be used as an input (alongside other forms of knowledge and evidence) to determine where efforts and resources are needed to improve health and well-being for disadvantaged subgroups. \nThis informational webinar marks the release of a new WHO eLearning course: Inequality Monitoring in Sexual\, Reproductive\, Maternal\, Newborn\, Child and Adolescent Health. The course introduces learners to a five-step approach to inequality monitoring in the context of SRMNCAH\, preparing them to apply these steps across diverse contexts and settings.
