DESCRIPTION:Each year\, 12 million girls are married before they turn 18. That is 22 girls every minute whose childhood\, dreams and education are cut short. The numbers are almost unfathomable: 650 million women and girls alive today were married as children – some organizations put this number as high as 700 million\, or just under 10% of the global population. \nJoin us on Thursday\, December 7th at 10:00 a.m. ET for a roundtable discussion with a panel of industry experts as we discuss this tragic form of gender-based violence. \nThere are many factors at play when a child ends up in an early or forced marriage. DESCRIPTION:Join a diverse panel of experts who will share their insights and identify solutions to support and accelerate vaccine delivery and uptake in Africa at a webinar on February 21.We are hosting the second in our series of 90-minute webinars on the challenges of and opportunities for strengthening vaccine delivery and uptake in Africa. Please join us to learn more about this international effort.  \nThe African Union set an ambitious objective of developing\, producing and distributing at least 60% of the vaccines for Africa by 2040 and has established the Partnerships for African Vaccine Manufacturing to enhance the continent’s supply resilience. It aims to increase health security across the continent and globally. At present\, less than 0.1% of the world’s vaccine supply is manufactured in Africa\, and only 1% of vaccines deployed in Africa are manufactured on the continent. \nOther partners\, including Global Affairs Canada\, the Mastercard Foundation and IDRC\, are investing in this objective. Global Affairs Canada’s Global Initiative for Vaccine Equity has invested CAD317 million to increase COVID-19 vaccination among priority groups\, reinforce health-system capacity and diversify vaccine manufacturing capacity in 12 target countries\, most of which are in Africa. The Mastercard Foundation’s Saving Lives and Livelihoods program aims to secure vaccines for a minimum of 50 million individuals and facilitate the administration of vaccinations to millions more across Africa. IDRC is funding research to identify the challenges and issues associated with scaling vaccine manufacturing and distribution in Africa\, and to accelerate the uptake and use of new vaccines as they are rolled out.The discussion will be hosted in English with live French interpretation. \nThis roundtable\, co-sponsored by IDRC and Global Affairs Canada\, is the second in a series to share information and identify ways to help overcome the challenges that lie ahead.  \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Advancing Action on Adaptation: Implications of COP28
DESCRIPTION:Greater support and action on adaptation is a longstanding need\, as outlined in the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA)\, established under the 2015 Paris Agreement. The estimated cost of adaptation for developing countries could reach up to US$387 billion annually within this decade\, underscoring the importance of addressing the scale and frequency of climate-related disasters and impacts. The GGA is a framework to provide measurable targets\, indicators\, and guidelines aimed at catalysing adaptation initiatives and enhancing financing and support for developing countries. Yet\, putting the GGA into action has proved challenging. \nAt COP28\, Parties identified gaps as part of the first Global Stocktake\, and sought to advance progress on the GGA by adopting the UAE Framework for Global Climate Resilience. \nOn February 22\, join Aga Khan Foundation Canada and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) for a virtual event on advancing global action on adaptation and the implications of COP28’s adaptation-related outcomes. DESCRIPTION:Are you an avid advocate for what you believe in and passionate about youth health and rights\, or do you want to learn more? \nThe past decade or so has shown us how connected we all are as human beings and how events in one corner of the world can affect the rest of the world. This is why we wanted to create a safe space to exchange realities and ideas about what it means to be a youth advocate for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights around the world. \nCARE Canada and partners invite you to join our virtual event – Speak Up: Youth voices for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) around the world! \nRegister now: \nRegister to attend the event on Tuesday\, February 27th for a panel discussion with inspiring youth SRHR advocates from Canada\, Kenya\, Uganda and Zambia. Panelists will share their unique insights from their regions on youth SRHR\, speak to their own advocacy journeys and show how to take action yourself within this space. Participants can earn a certificate of participation to show off their new knowledge! \nEvent timeline: \nThe event is divided into a 30-minute panel discussion and subsequent breakout rooms with each of the speakers. Select one of the breakout rooms to join after the panel discussion based on your interests or region. You will have the opportunity to explore youth SRHR advocacy in more depth alongside the panelist of your choice and a smaller group of participants. \nCome to learn about and discuss SRHR advocacy\, and network with likeminded youth around the world! \nShare this event with your friends and community! SUMMARY:Breaking the barriers: access to services for women with disabilities in West Africa
DESCRIPTION:The barriers to access to services faced by women with disabilities in all their diversity\, combined with systemic intersectional discrimination and gender-based violence\, hinder their empowerment and undermine progress towards gender equality in the broadest sense. Drawing on the successful experiences of activists with disabilities from Senegal\, Benin and Togo\, our event will pave the way for innovations in access to civil status\, public health and justice services\, and social protection. DESCRIPTION:This project involved creating sex\, gender\, equity\, and trauma informed resources for providers that reflect women’s lived and living experiences with chronic pain and prescription opioids. We spoke with women with lived/living experiences\, consulted with providers\, examined the literature\, and analyzed Canadian policy documents on chronic pain with a sex and gender lens. \nJoin us to learn about our info packages\, online training modules\, and other resources designed for women and service providers.
