DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS CAMPAIGN SCHOOL?\n\n\nThis program is designed to equip women\, Two Spirit\, and gender-diverse individuals with the skills\, knowledge\, and resources needed to run for political office in Canada. This module will focus on municipal elections as we prepare for upcoming races across the country. Equal Voice is a multi-partisan organization\, and participants will have the opportunity to learn from elected officials and experts representing all political parties and levels of government.\nThis program consists of 4 online sessions including a mix of group exercises\, guest speakers\, and networking opportunities with other leaders from across Canada. \nEach session is approximately 2 hours for a total of 8 hours of learning over 2 weeks. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, April 29th\, as the AVA Webinar Series presents Basic Income and Gender-Based Violence: Exploring the Transformative Potential of a Guaranteed Livable Basic Income to Support Safety and Autonomy\, featuring Jennie Pearson and Moss from the Basic Income Youth Collective. \nWednesday\, April 29th\, 2026 \n2 – 3:30pm EDT \nThis session provides an accessible introduction into the world of basic income and what its implementation could mean for people impacted by or at-risk of gender-based violence. Participants will gain insights into the connections between basic income advocacy and anti-violence and gender-equity work\, and will be encouraged to consider the impacts of basic income for supporting people’s safety and autonomy. \nAbout the Speakers \nJennie Pearson\, PhD (she/her) is a community-based researcher and Postdoctoral Fellow at Simon Fraser University. Her research focuses on sex workers’ mutual aid practices and community care models across physical and digital spaces. She is also a member of the Basic Income Youth Collective. Her interest in basic income stems from her research and organizing for sex worker rights\, acknowledging the intersecting impacts of criminalization and poverty on sex workers’ health\, safety and wellbeing. \nMoss is a Guyanese and Peruvian genderqueer person based in Tkaronto/Toronto. During the COVID-19 pandemic\, they became more engaged in social justice\, volunteering with Meals on Wheels and learning about urban accessibility and transportation. \nTheir growing understanding of systemic inequities strengthened their belief in basic income. Moss now builds community among disabled peers\, writes\, and studies social service work at Seneca Polytechnic\, hoping to advance queer liberation\, disability justice\, and youth rights in their future career. \nAttend here!

DESCRIPTION:Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right\, but a necessary foundation for a healthy\, peaceful\, and prosperous world. A person’s gender affects their ability to reduce their exposure to risks of poor health\, access healthcare\, adopt health-seeking behaviours\, and achieve good health and well-being. To be effective\, global health programs must adopt a gender integration approach that systematically works to reduce gender-related barriers to good health and well-being and advance gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment. \nThis introductory course takes a participatory approach to building global health practitioners’ skills to design\, implement\, monitor\, and evaluate gender transformative programmes. The course will follow a typical project cycle\, taking participants through key entry points for gender integration at each stage. Faculty from Canadian and global private and public sector institutions (e.g.\, academia\, NGOs\, government) will share their real-world experiences in gender integration in global health programmes\, and case studies will cover various sub-sectors\, such as immunization\, nutrition\, and malaria. In addition to gender analysis\, participants will learn how to apply an intersectional lens to gender-transformative approaches\, enhancing their understanding and promotion of social inclusion and the social determinants of health. DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the UBC Branch for Global Surgical Care and the Institute for Global Health at BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital (IGH-CW)\, we invite you to attend a talk on “Expanding Neonatal and Pediatric Surgical Care in Conflict-Affected Settings: The MSF Experience” featuring Dr. Shahrzad Joharifard and Dr. Jean-Pierre Létoquart. \nWhen: Wednesday\, May 27\, 2026\, 7:00 – 8:00 AM \nWhere: BC Children’s Hospital TACC – Rooms T4-546 A&B + virtual \nIn many conflict-affected settings\, children comprise the majority of the population\, yet neonatal and pediatric surgical care remains largely absent from humanitarian surgical priorities. While emergency surgical programs have expanded globally\, children with congenital conditions and other complex surgical diseases often remain without access to specialized surgical\, anesthesia\, and perioperative care\, resulting in preventable disability\, chronic morbidity\, and death. \nIn this talk\, pediatric surgeon Shahrzad Joharifard and longtime MSF-France surgical advisor Jean-Pierre Létoquart discuss ongoing efforts within Médecins Sans Frontières to expand access to pediatric surgical care in some of the world’s most resource-constrained settings. DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, May 27th as the AVA Webinar Series presents The SPARX Program: Promoting Healthy Relationships and Preventing Dating Violence by Raising Awareness Among Youth\, Caregivers\, and Professionals\, featuring Pénélope Allard-Cobeto and Émilie Marien from  SPARX for Positive Romantic and Intimate Relationships. \nWednesday\, May 27th\, 2026 \n2 – 3:30pm EDT \nThe SPARX Program is a comprehensive prevention initiative designed to promote healthy intimate relationships among youth and to prevent dating violence. The program includes several components tailored to key audiences. Two components are directed specifically at youth: a youth ambassador committee\, created by and for teenagers\, and interactive sexuality education workshops that focus on defining healthy relationships and preventing dating violence. Another component supports caregivers by providing practical tools and resources to help them confidently discuss healthy relationships and dating violence with the young people in their care. The final component focuses on professionals working with youth\, offering training to strengthen their sense of self efficacy in addressing these topics\, facilitating workshops\, and responding appropriately to disclosures of violence. This webinar will provide an overview of the four components of the SPARX program and share key findings from their evaluation. \nAbout the Speakers \nPenelope Allard‑Cobetto holds a bachelor’s degree in criminology and a master’s degree in sexology. For the past three years\, she has worked with the Canada Research Chair in Interpersonal Traumas and Resilience as the coordinator of the SPARX Project. In this role\, she collaborates with adolescents\, caregivers\, and professionals to assess their needs\, develops tools based on their input\, implements targeted initiatives\, and gathers feedback to continuously improve the program\, with the goal of identifying effective ways to promote healthy relationships and prevent dating violence. \nÉmilie Marien holds a bachelor’s degree in science high school teaching and a bachelor’s degree in sexology. Dedicated to promoting sex education among youth\, she now works as a research support agent for the Canada Research Chair in Interpersonal Traumas and Resilience. She offers trainings to facilitate the SPARX program\, supports the youth ambassador component and plays a key role in the social media campaign. Driven by the mission of making dating violence prevention and healthy relationships promotion tools as accessible as possible\, she is committed to ensuring they meet the real needs of parents\, youth workers\, and young people themselves. \nAttend here!

DESCRIPTION:Register for Dignity in Dialogue’s upcoming session on May 28th from 10:30 AM- 12:00 PM EDT.  \nBuilding on this year’s IDAHOBIT theme\, At the Heart of Democracy\, this session will examine the coordinated challenge anti-rights actors pose to LGBTIQ+ movements\, democratic institutions\, and civic space worldwide. Over the past decade\, these actors have become increasingly networked\, well-resourced\, and strategic: adapting global anti-rights agendas to local political and legal contexts\, building alliances with governments and political actors\, and systematically targeting international human rights frameworks. \nFor Canadian civil society organizations\, understanding the structure\, strategies\, and regional dimensions of these movements is essential to developing effective solidarity\, advocacy\, and protection responses. SUMMARY:Reproductive Violence
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, June 3rd\, as the AVA Webinar Series presents Reproductive Violence\, featuring Dr. Sylvie Lévesque from Applied and Interdisciplinary Research on Intimate\, Family\, and Structural Violence. \nWednesday\, June 3rd\, 2026 \n2 – 3:30pm EDT \nGynecological and obstetric care experiences are not the same for everyone. For some\, they are positive experiences that allow them to address their reproductive and sexual health issues\, while for others\, they are dehumanizing or even violent. Some leave the consultation room more traumatized than when they arrived. \nBased on quantitative and qualitative data collected in Quebec over the past two years by the PAROLES project\, this presentation will illustrate areas of tension between the needs of women and individuals receiving care and the care actually provided. We will address\, in particular\, the relationship between healthcare staff and patients\, autonomy and free will\, and conclude with some recommendations formulated by those most directly affected. \nAbout the Speaker \nDr. Sylvie Lévesque\, PhD\, has been a professor in the Department of Sexology since 2012. She holds degrees in sexology and public health and has several years of experience in intervention and supervision. Her current research interests include intimate partner violence and violence against women\, motherhood in vulnerable situations\, reproductive coercion\, perinatal domestic violence\, gynecological and obstetric violence\, and the burden of contraception. She is also interested in women’s rights related to sexual and reproductive health. The majority of her research is conducted in close collaboration with community and institutional partners. DESCRIPTION:The Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council (CMPAC)\, and Cooperation Canada are pleased to invite you to participate in an upcoming three-part Charity Compliance Webinar Series\, delivered in partnership with the Charities Directorate of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)\, and sponsored by Human Concern International (HCI). \nThis series is designed to support registered charities in strengthening their understanding of compliance obligations under the Income Tax Act (ITA). Recognizing that most compliance challenges stem from uncertainty rather than intent\, these sessions will take an education-first approach\, providing clear\, practical guidance tailored to organizations at different levels of experience. The series is delivered by senior CRA officials in-person in Ottawa with an option to join virtually. French translation will be provided virtually. \nWhat to expect:  \nAcross three sessions\, participants will receive step-by-step guidance on key compliance requirements\, with each session building in complexity: \nSession 1: Maintaining Charitable Registration: Core Obligations (Level 1) \nThis session will explain what charities need to know to maintain their registration with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It will provide an overview of the CRA’s Charities Directorate\, key registration requirements with a focus on books and records and filing the T3010\, common compliance issues\, and tools to support charities in their work. \nSession 2: Receipting and Fundraising: Requirements for Registered Charities (Level 2) \nThis session will provide information and resources on gifting\, receipting\, and key fundraising considerations for registered charities. Specifically\, the session will focus on the requirements for issuing official donation receipts and outline key fundraising rules. \nSession 3: Complex Compliance Obligations for Registered Charities (Level 3) \nThis session will examine more complex compliance obligations for registered charities. It will cover requirements related to public policy dialogue and development activities\, making grants to non‑qualified donees\, directed giving\, and operating internationally or in areas with security concerns.
