DESCRIPTION:MNCH-N integrated PPFP and client-centered interventions have proven effective in significantly increasing the supply and use of FP and MNCH services in the Francophone West African region. \nThe Regional Community of Practice (CoP) integrated with MNCH-N aims to sustain the continuum of integrated antenatal and postnatal care services in the nine francophone West African countries (OP countries)\, and secondarily in the other ECOWAS countries. \nThis CoP is an opportunity to expand\, through evidence-based advocacy\, strategic partnerships and funding to accelerate the scaling up of integrated FPTP service delivery practices with maternal and newborn care and immunization. \nAs such\, the COP Steering Committee (WHO/AFRO\, WAHO\, FP2030\, SAGO\, Jhpiego\, UNFPA/WCARO\, USAID/WA\, and IntraHealth/INSPiRE- BMGF)\, in partnership with IBP and Knowledge SUCCESS\, are hosting a webinar on good practices and lessons learned in West Africa. \nThis event is in French with simultaneous interpretation to English. \nFor more information such as the agenda and panelist bios\, visit the the event page. \nClick here to register!

We uphold the principles of social justice when we promote gender equality\, or the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants. We advance social justice when we remove barriers that people face because of gender\, age\, race\, ethnicity\, religion\, culture or disability. \nFor the United Nations\, the pursuit of social justice for all is at the core of our global mission to promote development and human dignity. The adoption by the International Labour Organization of the Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization is just one recent example of the UN System’s commitment to social justice. The Declaration focuses on guaranteeing fair outcomes for all\, through employment\, social protection\, social dialogue\, and fundamental principles and rights at work.

The history of Black Canadians is an\nparticularly diverse one – from the story of Black Canadians in Africville\, to the wave of African\n& Caribbean migrants that arrived in Canada over the course of the 60s and 80s\, and now at\npresent day – the history of revolution and resistance is a recurring theme that is prevalent\namongst Black communities. This Black History Month not only are we taking a moment to\nexplore our past\, but we are also taking the time to celebrate the work of contemporary Black\nscholars\, activists\, and leaders from our local communities. \nDilaye Desta will be moderating this discussion &; will go through a series of questions that\nhighlight our panelists & views and the passion behind their work. We will hear about the\nhistorical context of resistance movements in Canada and how their work ties into community\nactivism and revolution in contemporary society. DESCRIPTION:On a global scale\, uncertainty has taken on many faces – the war in Ukraine\, a decline in the global Human Development Index\, economic instability\, and climate disasters\, among others – which is leading to a myriad of disruptions in day-to-day living. \nAs stated within the 2021-2022 UNDP Human Development Report\, “The hero and the villain in today’s uncertainty story are one in the same: human choice.” How can our continued choices influence our world of tomorrow? \nAs part of Canada’s International Development Week\, AKFC and Cooperation Canada are hosting an event centered on moving forward in uncertainty. The 2021-2022 UNDP Human Development Report will serve as the basis for an important discussion amongst policy makers and senior leaders in international development\, on uncertainty and the responsibilities we all have in advancing human development. \nMr. Pedro Conceição\, Head of the Human Development Report Office and Lead Author of the report\, will deliver a keynote address to highlight the key themes of the report\, followed by his participation in a panel discussion. SUMMARY:International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation
DESCRIPTION:Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons and is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights\, the health and the integrity of girls and women. \nGirls who undergo female genital mutilation face short-term complications such as severe pain\, shock\, excessive bleeding\, infections\, and difficulty in passing urine\, as well as long-term consequences for their sexual and reproductive health and mental health. \nAlthough primarily concentrated in 30 countries in Africa and the Middle East\, female genital mutilation is a universal problem and is also practiced in some countries in Asia and Latin America. Female genital mutilation continues to persist amongst immigrant populations living in Western Europe\, North America\, Australia and New Zealand. \nTo promote the elimination of female genital mutilation\, coordinated and systematic efforts are needed\, and they must engage whole communities and focus on human rights\, gender equality\, sexual education and attention to the needs of women and girls who suffer from its consequences. \n  \n\n

Dr Vora did her MPH at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health\, Baltimore\, USA and PhD from University of Maryland\, College Park\, USA.  Dr Vora received Bill and Melinda Gates Scholarship for MPH and international teaching fellowship at University of Maryland\, College Park. \nDr Vora has worked at Indian Institute of Management\, Ahmedabad and a joint project of UNFPA and Govt. of Gujarat\, before joining Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar in 2012. Dr Vora has collaborated internationally with Karolinka Institutet\, University of Aberdeen\, McGIll University and University of Canberra among others. Her areas of interest includes Reproductive child health\, Health policy\, Health System strengthening\, Implementation research\, Demographic Surveillance\, Health innovations and Cancer research \nIn this webinar\, Dr. Vora will discuss her experience working with tribal populations when it comes to reproductive health.  Learning objectives from the seminar: \n\nTo understand marginalization of tribal population\nChallenges of working in tribal area for reproductive health\nSatisfaction of working in tribal areas\n\nDr. Vora will also be on hand to answer your questions throughout the webinar as well as at the end of the webinar. \nWe look forward to seeing you there. \nClick here to register!
