From COVID-19 epidemic threat to the inclusivity failure\, to legal and financial barriers\, and restrictive gender norms\, essential SRHR services are the first to fall out and to have its links to SDG2030 strained. Adolescents/youth\, refugees\, and women in menopausal transition are important to include in SRH\, as well as including SRH services in the essential package of health services remains a primary task. There is a need for a true representation of diversity of voices and variety of relevant partners to regain SRHR and strengthen its positioning globally to contribute to achievement of SDGs. Specific examples from an IDRC-funded project that examines sexual and reproductive rights and the link between these rights and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) among Syrian women refugees in Lebanon will be highlighted. \nDr Faysal El Kak is Vice President of FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics)\, a Director of the Women Integrated Sexual Health (WISH) Program and clinical associate of OBGYN and Female Sexual Dysfunction\, Department of OBGYN\, American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC)\, a senior lecturer of Health Behavior\, Sexuality and Public Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut (AUB). He is involved in clinical and academic/research services in both academic and community levels\, this includes running a community clinic where he works on services\, research\, and advocacy related to Syrian refugee health and marginalized Lebanese in the host community\, especially women’s health. L’objectif premier de cette série de webinaires est de permettre une réflexion critique sur la hiérarchie des savoirs\, laquelle n’a pas cessé de s’imposer en promotion de la santé malgré le nombre accru de voix qui s’élèvent pour un changement de paradigme à cet égard. La décolonisation des savoirs et des pratiques en promotion de la santé répond à un impératif de justice sociale puisqu’elle implique de mettre en lumière les mécanismes politiques et sociaux susceptibles de contribuer à la propagation et l’accroissement des inégalités de santé à l’échelle globale. \nCe webinaire explore des pistes propices à une co-production des savoirs et des pratiques\, intégrative et plurielle\, portée par des politiques publiques rigoureuses et efficaces. Nous aborderons la question en examinant deux sphères d’activité : la recherche et l’expertise. La domination fondée sur les savoirs (épistémique) au sein de la recherche universitaire relève avant tout d’une problématique d’ordre systémique puisqu’elle est le plus souvent directement reliée aux sources de financement. De même\, la tendance à favoriser les expertises provenant de l’extérieur au détriment d’expertises locales dans les pays du Sud ou communautés fragilisées du Nord s’inscrit dans une dynamique hiérarchique restrictive et relativement peu efficace. Dans les deux cas\, une réflexion critique et prospective s’impose. \nEn nous appuyant sur trois études de cas\, nous proposons de réfléchir aux balises à poser pour promouvoir des collaborations entre chercheurs\, décideurs et acteurs de terrain à la fois justes et fructueuses. \n\nPluriversalité des savoirs en santé publique : Que retenir des philosophes africains pour la recherche et la pratique ici et ailleurs ? par Lara Gautier. Cette présentation proposera un bref aperçu des penseurs africains s’inscrivant dans le courant décolonial et la pluriversalité des savoirs. Elle présentera ensuite des exemples concrets de l’intégration de ces perspectives dans la recherche et la pratique en santé publique dans différents contextes.\n La (dé)colonisation comme cadre de référence pour examiner les idées et approches populaires touchant les programmes de repas scolaires\, par Irene Torres. Cette présentation interroge certains des objectifs idéologiques qui semblent travailler en arrière-plan des programmes d’alimentation scolaire destinés à améliorer la santé et le bien-être des enfants et ce\, tout en réduisant l’impact environnemental. Au-delà de la critique\, nous explorerons ensemble une approche alternative plus en phase avec les missions de l’école au sens large\, avec le potentiel de soutenir la promotion de l’équité\, du bien-être\, de la citoyenneté\, de la cohésion sociale et peut être même de la démocratie.\nIncidence de l’écoute sur la santé mentale et physique des femmes en situation de précarité\, par Khadija Mettat. Dans le travail de soutien aux femmes en situation de précarité souffrant de problèmes de santé physique ou mentale\, l’écoute active et bienveillante est fondamentale car elle permet\, d’une part\, d’établir une base de partage de connaissances entre tous les acteurs impliqués dans le processus\, et d’autre part\, d’amorcer un plan d’aide structuré adapté aux besoins de chacune. Les bien-fondés de cette approche seront discutés ici à l’aide d’exemples concrets tirés du travail de terrain effectué par l’équipe de formateurs de l’association Santé et Formation au Maroc.\n\nCliquez ici pour en savoir plus!

SUMMARY:Neglected Tropical Diseases and WASH\, Spotlight on Trachoma
DESCRIPTION:In honor of World Water Day on March 22 and the UN Conference on Water\, the Canadian Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (CNNTD)\, in partnership with Operation Eyesight Universal and the University of Calgary\, Alberta Council for Global Cooperation\, highlight Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) as diseases needing equitable access to Water\, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for their prevention and management. NTDs affect over 1.7 billion people (globally\, 1 in 5)\, most of whom live in under-resourced and underserved communities that lack access to water and sanitation and primary health care. Although the scale of NTDs as a public health problem makes the solutions seem daunting\, this session shares successes in NTD prevention and treatment globally that have been supported by Canadians within the global health community. One organization doing NTD elimination through global partnership is Operation Eyesight. The provision of clean water\, along with other critical efforts\, is preventing and supporting the treatment of Trachoma in Kenya\, Zambia and Ethiopia. SUMMARY:Launch: Inequality Monitoring in Sexual\, Reproductive\, Maternal\, Newborn\, Child and Adolescent Health eLearning course
DESCRIPTION:Inequities in sexual\, reproductive\, maternal\, newborn\, child and adolescent health (SRMNCAH) throughout the world mean that certain population subgroups have systematically worse health outcomes and poorer access to services and interventions than others. Addressing inequities in SRMNCAH is central to achieving universal health coverage\, protecting human rights\, advancing gender equality\, combating discrimination and improving the social determinants of health. Making progress in each of these areas is also vital to achieve WHO’s Triple Billion targets and accelerate towards the health-related SDGs. \nRegular monitoring and review of inequalities in SRMNCAH by stakeholders at regional\, national and subnational levels is critical for evidence based decision making. The results of this inequality monitoring can also be used as an input (alongside other forms of knowledge and evidence) to determine where efforts and resources are needed to improve health and well-being for disadvantaged subgroups. \nThis informational webinar marks the release of a new WHO eLearning course: Inequality Monitoring in Sexual\, Reproductive\, Maternal\, Newborn\, Child and Adolescent Health. We uphold the principles of social justice when we promote gender equality\, or the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants. We advance social justice when we remove barriers that people face because of gender\, age\, race\, ethnicity\, religion\, culture or disability. \nFor the United Nations\, the pursuit of social justice for all is at the core of our global mission to promote development and human dignity. The adoption by the International Labour Organization of the Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization is just one recent example of the UN System’s commitment to social justice. The Declaration focuses on guaranteeing fair outcomes for all\, through employment\, social protection\, social dialogue\, and fundamental principles and rights at work.

DESCRIPTION:When: Feb. 16th at 6pm\nLocation: Zoom & Facebook Live\nModerator: Dilaye Desta\nGuests: Sarah George\, Karine Coen-Sanchez \nDescription \nBlack History is a time to celebrate the achievements of civil rights movements\, innovative\ntrailblazers\, and beauty in our diverse cultural expressions. The history of Black Canadians is an\nparticularly diverse one – from the story of Black Canadians in Africville\, to the wave of African\n& Caribbean migrants that arrived in Canada over the course of the 60s and 80s\, and now at\npresent day – the history of revolution and resistance is a recurring theme that is prevalent\namongst Black communities. This Black History Month not only are we taking a moment to\nexplore our past\, but we are also taking the time to celebrate the work of contemporary Black\nscholars\, activists\, and leaders from our local communities. \nDilaye Desta will be moderating this discussion &; will go through a series of questions that\nhighlight our panelists & views and the passion behind their work. We will hear about the\nhistorical context of resistance movements in Canada and how their work ties into community\nactivism and revolution in contemporary society. We will discuss what barriers are faced–\nwhether it be within our communities or due to the lack of support given to our communities\nand initiatives. DESCRIPTION:*This workshop is will be delivered in English and French\, but you don’t need to understand both to participate.** \nAdvocacy often starts with putting key issues on the radar of those in power. \nResults Canada is a nonprofit advocacy organization with a network of passionate volunteers committed to generating the political will to end extreme poverty in low- and middle-income countries. “Political will” means our volunteers direct their efforts at politicians like party leaders\, Members of Parliament and senators because they have the power to make a difference around the world. \nJoin this workshop to learn the basics of advocacy – picking your targets\, identifying opportunities and brainstorming appropriate advocacy tactics.
