SUMMARY:Multisectoral Collaboration in Action: Practical insights into addressing malnutrition through a multisectoral approach
DESCRIPTION:The rationale for a multisectoral approach to addressing malnutrition is clear – what may be less clear is how to achieve this in practice. This N4G Side-Event\, co-hosted by The Power of Nutrition and Nutrition International\, aims to share practical insights on how to optimize multisectoral approaches and collaboration in large-scale nutrition programmes. A diverse panel – with expertise from government\, multilateral and bilateral agencies and civil society – will discuss enabling conditions and strategies for overcoming challenges related to multisectoral partnerships; leadership and governance; financing; program implementation; and progress tracking and accountability. She received her Bachelor of science in Biology and Master of Science in Global Health degrees from Duke University. She co-founded the Duke Decolonizing Global Health Working Group in 2018 to create a space for students\, faculty\, and researchers to critically reflect on the legacies of colonialism embedded in the field of Global Health. She has spent the last decade working in international and domestic HIV/AIDS research ranging from investigational clinical trials\, HIV prevention and treatment studies\, and behavioral interventions. In addition to HIV/AIDS\, her research interests include mental health\, health equity\, adolescent health\, and sexual and reproductive health of sexual and gender minorities. She currently works as a clinical research professional at Duke University.

DESCRIPTION:The McMaster Global Health MSc Program and Mac Med Global Health Committee are proud to present the McMaster Global Health Conference 2021: “Narratives in Global Health” taking place on October 30th\, 2021! \nThis theme reflects the idea that we have collective and individual experiences within global health and that global health issues faced by individuals have a shared impact on everyone regardless of national borders. The conference seeks to highlight unique individual stories and share new perspectives. We hope to engage attendees to explore and critically think about ways we can acknowledge our duties and responsibilities as global citizens. Throughout the conference\, we will explore the interplay of various Sustainable Development Goals\, particularly SDG 3\, 10\, 13\, and 16 – good health and well-being\, reduced inequalities\, climate action\, and peace\, justice\, and strong institutions. \nOur keynote speaker is Dr. Caesar Atuire\, a philosopher and bioethicist with the University of Ghana. He a founding member of the Ghana Research Ethics Consortium and a member of the Planning Committee of the Global Forum on Bioethics in Research\, 2020. SUMMARY:Building Forward Better: Advancing SRHR for Climate Adaptation and Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Discussions around climate change and sexual and reproductive health rarely occur in the same spaces\, despite ever growing evidence showing that they should. Climate change threatens human health and rights—and has a disproportionate effect on the most vulnerable girls and women\, in all their intersecting identities. SUMMARY:EM2030 UN World Data Forum Webinar - Gender Data Gaps
DESCRIPTION:Equal Measures 2030 is convening a webinar in the context of the UN World Data Forum that explores how demand-driven partnerships have addressed gender data and accountability gaps. The webinar will highlight good practices and lessons in establishing data collaboratives or partnerships with women’s and girls’ rights organizations that have explored addressing gender data needs in relation to different themes (e.g.\, education\, health\, violence\, etc.) and efforts to address or close these data gaps. The webinar will present innovative partnerships between grassroots organizations and national statistical offices\, academics\, multilaterals and amongst other grass roots organizations. \nThe event will be moderated by Ashley Monson of the Tableau Foundation and she will pose a series of questions to a diverse set of panelists that will aim to elicit practical lessons they faced in both the process and outcomes of their initiative and collaboration with gender advocates in data production or use. DESCRIPTION:Feminist Leadership\, Movement Building\, and Rights Institute\, organized by CREA\, is a five-day residential training in Hindi. Participants can also use a laptop\, computer\, or smartphone. DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 has strained global health systems beyond capacity\, and the economic fallout has been far-reaching: job losses\, wage cuts\, small businesses closing their doors\, and the added burden to social safety networks and government programs. \nIn crises like the coronavirus\, women are often the first to drop out of paid work and the last to join back. Their experiences are compounded by fewer employment opportunities\, disruptions in childcare\, an increased burden of unpaid care for the ill and elderly\, an uptick in gender-based violence\, and increased competition for resources. \nThe systemic inequities highlighted by the pandemic shed light on the many barriers women face in the world of work. New and innovative recovery efforts are required to address these inequities and set women up for success. \nDuring this second event in ICRW’s 45th anniversary series\, we will be joined by speakers from across regions who bring unique perspectives on work in South Asia and East Africa and aim to build a new foundation of support for women in both paid and unpaid work. \nThese conversations will help us look more closely at the barriers that women perpetually face—leaving them on the periphery—and how we can together tackle these challenges to build toward more inclusive and resilient economies. \nClick here to register.

DESCRIPTION:Millions of people around the world continue to suffer from inadequate access to safely managed water\, sanitation and hygiene facilities. Our Dialogue will explore the importance of community-led approaches in achieving SDG #6 and improving global WASH planning and implementation. \nThe event will begin with a panel discussion on community-led approaches to WASH and the need for global advocacy around it. \nThe panel discussion will be followed by breakout groups to explore participants’ experiences of community-led WASH and barriers to implementation. SUMMARY:Building an International Career in Foreign Policy
DESCRIPTION:The foreign policy field presents unique opportunities to build a truly international career spanning geographies and cultures. However\, the process of building an international career can seem convoluted and daunting and comes with a unique set of challenges. As part of this discussion we will be covering topics including the value of working abroad as part of a foreign policy career\, how to stand out as an international candidate\, and panelists’ experiences on navigating visa and immigration issues. \nJoin us for a virtual discussion with panelists who have built international careers in a variety of foreign policy fields\, and find out more about the benefits as well as challenges of being a global professional in today’s world. The panel discussion will be followed by a brief Q&A session. \nEvent format\nA private link to a group call will be circulated to all participants one day before the event. The informal panel discussion will follow an interactive Q&A format\, to facilitate organic conversations between participants and panelists. \nWe welcome all women and non-binary people to our events\, particularly from underrepresented backgrounds. We are committed to building an environment that respects and values the diversity of our community. The ticket cost of our events is entirely reinvested into Women in Foreign Policy to ensure that we can continue to provide the majority of our resources free for our community.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special presentation to commemorate ADRA’s work in Lebanon.\nOn July 31\, at 5:00 PM EDT we will be talking with our colleagues from the ADRA Lebanon office to discuss ADRA’s work in Lebanon following the Beirut explosion of August 4\, 2020. We will be looking at the disaster\, ADRA’s response\, and the continuing recovery a year later. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe explosion in the port of Beirut\, Lebanon\, left an estimated 300\,000 people were left homeless. ADRA provided immediate humanitarian response followed by support in the months after. \nTune in on July 31 at 5:00 PM EDT to learn about how ADRA has helped Beirut rebuild following the devastating explosion.

She was also the first woman and youngest Deputy Grand Chief for Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) as well as the first female and youngest Grand Chief for Mushkegowuk Council. She served a second term as Chief of TTN\, and a second term as NAN Deputy Grand Chief. For nine years\, she ran a successful consulting business providing advice and guidance to First Nations leaders\, and organizations\, specializing in negotiations and facilitation. She returned to elected leadership in 2018 becoming the first woman Ontario Regional Chief leading the Chiefs of Ontario. \nEducation is a priority and essential to self-determination. RoseAnne holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and was the first member of her community to complete a Master’s Degree (Humanities). She was awarded the prestigious “Canada 125 medal” for having “made a significant contribution to Canada” through her leadership.  \nPositive and lasting change requires creative and innovative thinking and ways of being. RoseAnne balances her political life with creativity and art practice. She is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work focuses on political art\, landscape and portrait photography\, music as well as documentary short films that reflect a personal passion for social justice\, political engagement and community building.  \nRoseAnne has dedicated her adult life to serving and striving to create a better quality of life and future for First Nations people. She represents a generational change\, bringing diplomacy and encouraging unity in the First Nations political system\, while breaking down barriers since the start of her political career.  \nOntario Regional Chief (ORC)\, RoseAnne worked tirelessly and collaboratively with the Ontario Leadership Council over her three-year term. She made positive changes during her term including a strong and effective pandemic response that focused on saving lives and preserving the health and well-being of First Nation citizens; improved relationships with the federal and provincial governments; and established a Council of Elected Women Chiefs and the creation of an Economic Growth and Prosperity Table.  \nShe was elected to Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief in July 2021. \nThe Honourable Maryam Monsef\, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development\nThe Honourable Maryam Monsef is Canada’s Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development\, and the Member of Parliament for Peterborough—Kawartha. She is the first woman to be elected in the federal riding of Peterborough—Kawartha\, the first Afghan-Canadian Member of Parliament in Canada’s history\, and the first Muslim to serve as a federal Cabinet Minister. \nAs Minister for Women and Gender Equality\, she has been a part of a transformative period for gender equality in Canada. She led Status of Women Canada’s transition from an agency to the new Department for Women and Gender Equality\, and has secured precedent-setting investments in Canada’s equality-seeking movement\, including over $200 million to support Canada’s first-ever federal strategy to prevent and address gender-based violence. Minister Monsef was also instrumental in launching a historic fund of $100 million specifically to support the sustainability of the women’s movement by investing in capacity-building for women’s organizations across Canada. \nRecognized by Apolitical as one of the Top 20 Most Influential People in Gender Policy for two consecutive years\, Minister Monsef has helped to shape the conversation about gender equality on the national and global stage.  \nMinister Monsef is equally committed to bringing the voice of rural Canada to the Cabinet table\, where she is working on important rural economic development priorities including expanding access to broadband connectivity.  \nShe has always been committed to giving back to her community and her country. In her home community of Peterborough\, Ontario\, she co-founded the Red Pashmina Campaign\, which raised money to support education for women and girls in Afghanistan. She is an alumna of Trent University\, and speaks English\, Farsi and Dari. \nSusan Aglukark\, O.C.\, LL.B\nAward-Winning Inuk Singer-Songwriter\nAward-winning Inuk singer-songwriter Susan Aglukark is one of Canada’s most unique artists\, who blends the Inuktitut and English languages with contemporary pop music arrangements to tell the stories of her people\, the Inuit of Arctic Canada. Aglukark’s talks emphasize the same themes that her music does – those of hope\, spirit\, and encouragement that have captivated and inspired listeners around the world. \nAglukark has performed for Queen Elizabeth II\, Nelson Mandela\, Canadian Prime Ministers Jean Chrétien and Brian Mulroney\, French President Jacques Chirac\, as well as several other dignitaries. Equally important to her are the people she has performed for and spoken to on reserves\, in small towns and in villages across Canada and the Arctic. \nShe was awarded the Governor Generals Order of Canada in 2005\, and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal February 2012. She also holds honorary degrees in Law from the University of Alberta and the Calgary University\, and an honorary doctorate of Fine Arts from the Lethbridge University\, she is also the Chair and Founder of the Arctic Rose Foundation.
