SUMMARY:Nature-Based Solutions\, Climate Resilience\, and the SDGs
DESCRIPTION:From mangrove forests in coastal villages to green roofs on city skyscrapers\, nature-based solutions are one of the most powerful – and most underutilized – approaches to mitigate and adapt to climate change. By protecting\, restoring\, and sustainably managing ecosystems\, nature-based solutions offer the potential to reduce climate related risks and address the biodiversity crisis\, while delivering social and economic benefits to those living within these ecosystems. \nOn June 23\, Aga Khan Foundation Canada is pleased to host Nature-based Solutions\, Climate Resilience\, and the SDGs\, welcoming a panel of experienced practitioners who aim to reduce climate risks\, advance climate resilience\, and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Panelists will discuss the imperative of using nature-based solutions to address climate change and biodiversity loss and share examples of ongoing initiatives and available resources that organizations can draw on to strengthen their own work in this area. \nIn addition to the panel discussion\, participants will be invited to participate in breakout groups led by the speakers. These breakout groups will provide the opportunity to discuss the policy considerations\, opportunities\, and challenges of using nature-based solutions in development projects aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change. \nKey Information for Attendees \n\nWhen you register\, please indicate your interest to attend in-person at the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat or to attend online (Zoom) by selecting the relevant ticket option.\nPlease note that a proof of vaccination will be required to join in person.\nIn-person attendees are welcome to arrive by 8:40am\, to network and enjoy light refreshments.\n\nEvent Format/Breakout Sessions \nThe event will include breakout sessions with each panelist focusing on implementation and/or policy. \n\nIn person participants will be welcome to join a breakout session with Patricia Fuller or Jimena Eyzaguirre.\nOnline participants will be welcome to join a breakout session with Didier Van Bignoot or Benjamin Simmons.\nPlease specify your preference for breakout sessions as you fill out the registration form. SUMMARY:Peace: Beyond the absence of war
DESCRIPTION:Spur Change\, in partnership with l’Association québécoise des organismes de coopération internationale (AQOCI)\, is inviting small and medium organizations (SMOs)\, educators and youth from coast-to-coast-to-coast to its Annual National Conference “Peace: Beyond the absence of war” which will take place from May 17 to 19\, 2022 at the Bonaventure Hotel\, in downtown Montreal. \nPeace is more than the absence of war or armed conflict. To build sustainable peace\, should we not also urgently take into consideration social and environmental justice\, food safety and sovereignty\, freedom of movement\, respect for human rights and decolonization? Moreover\, we cannot ignore that the pandemic has significantly intensified inequalities threatening peace around the world. \nThrough discussion panels\, training\, peer sharing workshops and artistic content\, we will delve deeper into the notion of peace and explore ways in which a culture of peace can be nourished within international solidarity\, small and medium organizations and global citizenship education. We will also focus on the importance of gender equality and intersectional analysis to help develop inclusive\, sustainable and efficient solutions to address structural and systemic barriers to peace. We will explore how these structural causes intersect with other dynamics of repression and violence and systemic issues. \nDuring this 3-day conference\, over a hundred small and medium-sized organizations\, teachers and youth will join together to consider these questions\, explore solutions and share possible courses of action to build a peaceful world. \nThe deadline to submit an application is January 28\, 2022: Eventbrite.ca \n

SUMMARY:24th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion - IUHPE 2022
DESCRIPTION:The 24th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion (IUHPE 2022) will be held from May 15 to 19\, 2022\, in Montréal (Québec\, Canada)\, and online\, across the world. This major hybrid event of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education is co-organized by the School of Public Health of the Université de Montréal in collaboration with the INSPQ\, the Montréal Regional Directorate of Public Health as part of the ‘CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal\,’ the CHUM\, and the CHU Sainte-Justine. \nThe theme for the 24th IUHPE World Conference is Promoting policies for health\, well-being and equity. Such a focus is integral to the body of knowledge and action employed by the international health promotion community. IUHPE 2022 aims to lay a foundation for better and fairer systems responses to old\, recurrent\, and new issues in the promotion of global health and well-being. \nThrough both onsite and online events\, this hybrid conference will provide a platform to frame opportunities to challenge conventional wisdom. IUHPE 2022 Scientific Committees outline three areas of debate for health promotion to grow: \nBreaking news – consider the promise and opportunities of disruptions and tipping points\, whether it is in pandemic health challenges (and particularly ‘syndemics’\, such as the one between COVID19\, non-communicable disease and inequitably affected populations)\, climate change and ecological disruption\, geopolitical shifts\, social unrest and technological promise. \nBreaking free – from world-views that favour only market solutions\, classical divides between North and South\, toward emancipatory decolonising practices\, policies and knowledge systems. Building on health promotion legacies in health equity and Indigenous health\, both in IUHPE and beyond\, we can see better futures. \nBreaking through – disciplines\, silos\, boundaries and identities that are engrained in our practices and understandings. We seek innovation.  From embracing ‘pracademics’ and ‘boundary spanners’ to inspiring activist entrepreneurs – our meeting is a platform for you. \nSTART PLANNING! \nApril 2021: Abstract submission opens\nMay 2021: Online registration opens \nLearn more about the programme\, important dates and the latest news by visiting our website iuhpe2022.com and by consulting our presentation flyer in English and French (in the News section). \nFor any questions\, please contact the IUHPE 2022 Conference Secretariat – JPdL: iuhpe2022@jpdl.com

SUMMARY:Road to Recovery for Routine Immunization: Lessons from COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected the routine immunization of children. Most countries experienced drops in childhood vaccination coverage rates\, erasing decades of progress. Lifesaving vaccination campaigns were postponed in 50 countries in 2021\, putting around 228 million\, mostly children\, at risk of vaccine preventable diseases such as measles\, yellow fever\, and polio. \nAfter over two years of the pandemic and ongoing efforts to restore\, maintain and improve immunization programmes\, what are the key lessons that we have learned? Where are the current gaps and how can health systems be strengthened and adequately resourced to reach every child with lifesaving vaccinations? \nCo-hosted by the University of Toronto’s Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and UNICEF Canada during World Immunization Week 2022\, this webinar seeks to provide a platform to share best practices and learnings through the COVID-19 pandemic that can serve as opportunities as we embark on a road to recovery\, benefiting routine immunization. \nSpeaker presentations will be followed by an interactive Q&A session. \nModerator: \n\nDr. Shelly Bolotin – Director\, Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases\, Dalla Lana School of Public Health\, University of Toronto; Associate Professor\, Dalla Lana School of Public Health\, University of Toronto; Scientist\, Health Protection\, Public Health Ontario\n\nPanelists: \n\nDr. Ephrem T. Lemango – Associate Director of Immunization\, UNICEF\nJulia Anderson – Chief Executive Officer\, Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH)\n\nThe webinar will take place on Zoom on Tuesday\, April 26th 2022 – You will receive a webinar link and password TWO HOURS before the event. \nThe webinar will be available on the Dalla Lana School of Public Health’s YouTube page after the livestream concludes. \nQuestions?
