SUMMARY:SLF Pride Talks: Safety at Home for LGBTIQ Communities in sub-Saharan Africa
DESCRIPTION:In Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Kenya\, as well as in many countries around the world\, LGBTIQ people face discrimination and violence from their governments\, communities\, and families. While some LGBTIQ activists must flee for their safety\, most continue to live and work in their home countries and communities. \nJoin us on December 9\,at 11 a.m. EST in honour of Human Rights Day for our third installment of the SLF Pride Talks. You will have the opportunity to hear first-hand from the leaders of two vital community-based organizations in DRC and Kenya that are working to create safety at home for LGBTIQ individuals. \nThe event will also feature a short video that will highlight how: \n– Bridge Initiative Organization in Tanzania reunites families by leading peer-to-peer conversations between parents of LGBTIQ community members \n– Tamba Pwani in Kenya creates affirming and inclusive health care by training health care workers \n– Rainbow Sunrise Mapambazuko’s friendship centre in Democratic Republic of the Congo gives LGBTIQ individuals a place to gather and connect without needing to hide who they are \nand more! \nPartners in Pride \nThe Stephen Lewis Foundation Partners in Pride campaign is a global solidarity movement that mobilizes funds for grassroots LGBTIQ organizations in five central and east African countries. \nThese organizations build hope and solidarity among LGBTIQ individuals while providing health care\, legal services\, counselling\, and support. They champion human rights; ensure access to inclusive HIV services; and fight for a safer\, freer\, and more equal future for LGBTIQ communities\, often in the face of violent homophobia\, legally entrenched discrimination\, and political and social persecution. \nFor more information about Partners in Pride\, please contact: \nslfpride@stephenlewisfoundation.org \nwww.stephenlewisfoundation.org/partners-in-pride

SUMMARY:Sexual and Reproductive Justice now! A call to action two years on from the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) + 25 Nairobi Summit
DESCRIPTION:In 2019\, over 8\,300 people from 172 countries gathered at the Nairobi Summit to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the landmark Programme of Action adopted at the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo. Over 1\,300 commitments were made by Governments\, civil society and the private sector that were accompanied by 12 global commitments to achieve ICPD goals. The independent High-Level Commission of the Nairobi Summit  (HLC)\, was tasked with submitting periodic reports to the United Nations Population Fund\, UNFPA.  Two years later\, no region is on track for achieving its commitments.   \n SheDecides 25×25 youth leaders will be discussing the first HLC report No Exceptions\, No Exclusions with high-level commissioners at two years of the Nairobi Summit. Speakers will also analyse key international examples of what is holding SRHR back and how we can move SRHR forward. This is a crucial moment for sexual and reproductive health and rights worldwide. \nWe would love you to be part of this conversation to take urgent action together.

SUMMARY:Towards a More Equal Future – The Role of Gender Equality in Ending Malnutrition by 2030
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 has exposed gaps in nutrition efforts that have always required a shift in gendered power dynamics and decision-making. Put simply\, good nutrition cultivates gender equality\, and gender equality cultivates good nutrition. We must make gender equality the central catalyst\, to sustainably improve nutrition and access to affordable healthy diets for all. \nJoin host Femi Oke\, World Vision\, as well as partners Standing Together for Nutrition\, Scaling Up Nutrition\, Save the Children\, CARE\, and Nutrition International as we look at how gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls are central parts of building back better. The event will reflect on the key gender wins from the UN Food System Summit and spotlight Member States who have risen to the challenge of prioritizing gender equality within their commitments and action plans.

SUMMARY:Canadian Conference on Global Health: Rethinking partnership paradigms in global health
DESCRIPTION:The 27th annual Canadian Conference for Global Health calls for a shift in partnership paradigms in global health in order to achieve the complex and integrated social\, health and environmental goals set out in the SDGs. \nWhile there are many paradigms for partnership\, CCGH 2021 will provide a platform to highlight different partnership models at local\, national and international levels and understand how they contribute to equitable and sustainable outcomes. Specifically\, how have partnerships demonstrated tangible improvements to health and how they have facilitated the spread of social\, health and environmental improvements? How do partnerships impact the lives of those that work within them and how do they benefit other organizations or communities outside of the partnership? \nRegistration is available in two formats: \nIn-Person\nThe CCGH will accept a limited number of people in person at the Delta Hotel in Ottawa. The number of in-person attendees will depend on public health guidelines. At this time we will accept 85 registrations and any further will be waitlisted. Note that due to the limited number of spaces we will only be offering full registration for in-person delegates. \nCOVID-19 Note: In-person attendees will be asked at check-in to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR provide proof of a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 48 hours. \nVirtual\nThe CCGH will offer virtual registration for the hybrid program to an unlimited number of people. \nScholarships\nScholarships are offered that are intended to encourage the participation of people with lived experience and support representation from disadvantaged and under-represented communities\, as well as people working in Community-Based Organizations whose work is focused on supporting these communities – see if you qualify! All content of the CCGH will be archived for registered delegates for 3 months post-event. \nStudent and Young Professional Scholarships\nThe Canadian Association for Global Health (CCGH) is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships to attend this year’s CCGH virtually. The scholarships will be awarded to eligible CAGH members to cover the cost of registration for online participation. \nApplication deadline: October 31\, 2021\, at 11:59 pm EST. The review team will provide applicants with a decision on their application by November 5\, 2021\, at 5:00 pm EST. Please note that only successful applicants will be contacted. SUMMARY:Building Forward Better: Advancing SRHR for Climate Adaptation and Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Discussions around climate change and sexual and reproductive health rarely occur in the same spaces\, despite ever growing evidence showing that they should. Climate change threatens human health and rights—and has a disproportionate effect on the most vulnerable girls and women\, in all their intersecting identities. True climate justice is not possible without considering gender equality—and true gender equality is only possible when sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are fully realized.  To be ready to deliver in a crisis\, governments\, donors\, and development actors need to lead emergency preparedness for SRHR. \nAhead of COP26\, the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference\, this timely virtual event will convene a diverse group of member states\, UN entities\, civil society organizations\, and other key stakeholders to drive evidence-based dialogue and critical action on the  under discussed yet urgent need to integrate SRHR in gender responsive strategies to adapt to climate change. \nOpening Remarks:  \n\nWendy Morton\, UK Foreign\, Commonwealth and Development Office\nHon. Houmed M’Saidie\, Government of Comoros\n\nSpeakers:  \n\nSohanur Rahman\, YouthNet for Climate Justice\nDivya Mathew\, Women Deliver\nAngela Baschieri\, UNFPA\nFleur Newman UNFCCC\nJennifer Adams\, USAID\nLorelei Goodyear\, FP2030\n\nModerated by Julitta Onabanjo\, UNFPA

SUMMARY:Reshaping the World of Work for Women
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 has strained global health systems beyond capacity\, and the economic fallout has been far-reaching: job losses\, wage cuts\, small businesses closing their doors\, and the added burden to social safety networks and government programs. \nIn crises like the coronavirus\, women are often the first to drop out of paid work and the last to join back. Their experiences are compounded by fewer employment opportunities\, disruptions in childcare\, an increased burden of unpaid care for the ill and elderly\, an uptick in gender-based violence\, and increased competition for resources. \nThe systemic inequities highlighted by the pandemic shed light on the many barriers women face in the world of work. New and innovative recovery efforts are required to address these inequities and set women up for success. \nDuring this second event in ICRW’s 45th anniversary series\, we will be joined by speakers from across regions who bring unique perspectives on work in South Asia and East Africa and aim to build a new foundation of support for women in both paid and unpaid work. \nThese conversations will help us look more closely at the barriers that women perpetually face—leaving them on the periphery—and how we can together tackle these challenges to build toward more inclusive and resilient economies. \nClick here to register.
