SUMMARY:The History of Women’s Pain Management and Gender Bias in Medicine
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, Medical Herstory offers a historical perspective into how gender bias influences health experiences and medical care\, with a focus on women’s pain (including childbirth). Through patient experience case studies\, interactive trivia\, and group discussions\, we will address the implicit and institutional biases that have historically influenced women’s experiences of seeking and receiving care\, and explore how to overcome these barriers. \nThe workshop will include discussions on racism\, sexism\, medical dismissal and discrimination\, in addition to an exploration of societal and gender norms and factors influencing women’s health. \nThis workshop has been organised by the museum’s Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group. \nFacilitators \nMedical Herstory is an award-winning international non-profit on a mission to eliminate sexism\, shame\, and stigma from health experiences. We are dedicated to raising awareness on gender health inequity through storytelling\, undoing stigma\, patient advocacy\, and medical education.
