SUMMARY:Holding the Line: Canada’s Leadership in Global Development at a Time of Crisis - IDW Conversation & Reception
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special evening during International Development Week as we celebrate global solidarity and Canada’s contributions to poverty reduction\, gender equality\, and sustainable development. \nThis year’s IDW takes place amid significant global foreign aid reductions\, as many donor countries scale back official development assistance. These cuts threaten progress made on improving the lives and livelihoods of people across the world\, progress on the Sustainable Development Goals\, and they disproportionately impact the world’s most vulnerable communities. \nCanada has long been recognized as a principled development actor advancing feminist international assistance\, promoting human rights\, supporting climate resilience\, and championing multilateral cooperation. As global aid budgets contract\, Canada’s leadership is more critical than ever. \nThis reception will provide an opportunity to spotlight Canada’s role\, reaffirm the importance of sustained funding for development\, and strengthen collaboration among government\, civil society\, and international partners. \nWith special guests Colleen Wint Bond from Violence Prevention Alliance (VPA) in Jamaica and Roberto Paulo from LAMBDA in Mozambique\, you’ll gain deeper insights into the impacts due to ODA cuts on LGBTQI rights\, human rights\, GBV and humanitarian aid. \nKindly RSVP by January 29\, 2026. We look forward to seeing you! \nAttend here!

SUMMARY:Child care for all summit 2.0
DESCRIPTION:Come together with child care advocates\, parents\, early childhood educators\, and community leaders from across Canada for a powerful opportunity to connect\, reflect\, and take collective action toward a more inclusive and equitable early learning and child care system.  \nThis two-day summit will offer space for deep conversation\, collaboration\, and learning\, with a focus on the intersectional barriers faced by those historically excluded from Canada’s formal child care systems — including Black\, racialized\, immigrant and refugee families\, gender-diverse parents\, parents with disabilities\, and parents of children with disabilities. These communities\, often overlooked in child care policy and planning\, will be at the center of this convening.  \nOur collective goal is to strengthen a diverse and feminist child care movement that centers lived experience\, addresses systemic barriers\, and drives forward the vision of $10-a-day child care for all.  \nWhat to expect \nOver two days\, participants will:  \n\nDeepen their understanding of systemic gaps in child care policy and provision\nExplore solutions and grassroots strategies to advance equity in child care\nStrengthen networks and partnerships across movements and regions\nStrengthen the tools\, skills\, and momentum needed to advocate effectively in their communities and engaging equity-seeking groups.\n\nHeld during the Canada-wide Days of Action for Early Learning and Child Care\, this summit is both a celebration of progress and call to action. It is an opportunity to align our visions\, share knowledge\, and take action toward a child care system that works for all families  \nWHO SHOULD APPLY? \nWhether you’re a parent\, early childhood educator\, advocate\, community leader\, or simply passionate about equitable access to early learning and child care\, this summit is for you! We welcome those with varying levels of experience in child care advocacy — whether you’re new to the field or a seasoned advocate\, your voice matters.  \nCome be part of this important movement\, learn\, and help shape the future of early learning and child care in Canada!  \nWe are committed to justice\, equity\, diversity\, and inclusion. In alignment with these principles\, bursaries are available for participants who need financial support to cover the costs of accommodations and transportation.   \nAttend here!

SUMMARY:Localization as a Tool for Change: The importance of leading from the ground up for refugee and IDP education and advocacy
DESCRIPTION:With global cuts to humanitarian and development aid at a time when the need for funding has never been greater\, how can we ensure the needs of refugees and internally displaced people are met\, especially when it comes to education? Girls who receive an education have more opportunities to reach their full potential. They live healthier lives\, wait longer to start a family\, usually have fewer children\, and are more likely to ensure their children attend school. Local organizations supporting refugees and internally displaced people are working on the frontline to provide essential educational services to fill this gap\, but more assistance and resources are needed to expand their formidable efforts. Localization calls us to shift power to local actors and that includes centering the knowledge and leadership of refugee communities themselves\, especially women and girls\, who are often the most affected yet least heard. \n\n\n\n\n\nOxfam Canada will be in conversation with our Geared for Success partners to highlight the importance of localized\, gender-responsive education initiatives for refugees and internally displaced people\, especially women and girls. Hear directly from those working in South Sudan and Uganda on how they navigate ensuring a community-led and driven approach is taken in their work and advocacy.\nSpeakers:\n \n\nAmer Ruben Nhial\, Roving Gender Officer\, Oxfam South Sudan\nCleto Ireneo Kunda\, Executive Director\, Hope Agency for Relief and Development (HARD)\nNubuhoro Dinah\, Geared for Success Project Officer\, RELON Uganda\n\nAttend here!

SUMMARY:Oxfam Canada Youth Summit 2025
DESCRIPTION:Real change happens when people come together and use their collective power to lift up their communities. Together we have the ability to represent an array of people\, issues and lived experiences\, all with a shared passion for advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and comprehensive sexuality education (CSE)\, and ending the injustice of poverty and inequality. That is why Oxfam Canada is calling on youth activists\, community leaders and passionate individuals from across the country to come together and attend the Youth Summit! \nAbout the Youth Summit! \nOxfam Canada will convene young SRHR activists from across Canada to gain skills related to providing\, educating on\, and advocating for CSE and SRHR in their communities. The Youth Summit is a free\, two-day summit that will be packed full of workshops\, inspiring speakers\, and breakout sessions focused on SRHR issues and advocacy. Participants will leave inspired\, connected\, knowledgeable and equipped with skills to advocate for positive change under the broad umbrella of SRHR\, including an explicit focus on 2SLGBTQIA+ CSE. \nApplicants from anywhere in Canada\, excluding Quebec\, aged 18-29 are welcome to apply. Our overarching goal with these spots is to support young 2SLGBTQ+ leaders by equipping them with the skills and knowledge not only to bring CSE into their community spaces using an intersectional feminist and anti-racist approach\, but also advocate for CSE\, SRHR\, and other 2SLGBTQ+ related issues in political settings. \nYouth will participate in interactive sessions that build their capacity in CSE that addresses the needs of diverse populations. They will also learn how to advocate for the needs of themselves and their communities\, specifically around CSE and SRH to decision makers.

SUMMARY:Feminist Approaches to 'Localization'
DESCRIPTION:Oxfam Canada is on a journey to apply a feminist approach to all its work – both in terms of outcomes and ways of working. Applying feminist principles requires us to rethink current ways of working in the international aid sector. This session will unpack how ‘localization’ is part and parcel of an intersectional feminist approach. Drawing on its interviews with local women’s rights actors working across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus\, and on its experience supporting the leadership of local women’s rights organizations in its international programming\, Oxfam will share reflections and lessons learned on this crucial topic.

SUMMARY:SOLUTIONS TO ENDING VACCINE INEQUALITY
DESCRIPTION:In this edition of Oxfam Live\, we will discuss the impact of vaccine inequality and how the world’s richest countries have exercised a “me first” approach when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines\, buying up more than half the total supply – with grave consequences for people around the world living in poverty. \nRegister to join us for this discussion and hear more about the advocacy we’re doing to call for a People’s Vaccine – and demand that intellectual property rights for these life-saving vaccines be waived. \nClick here to register!
