SUMMARY:Empowered Worldview: Evidence of Faith-based Programming on Mindsets and Child Well-being in Rural Tanzania
DESCRIPTION:Can faith-based mindset shifts improve child health outcomes? Join World Vision Canada and the Joint Learning Initiative on Faith & Local Communities to explore new evidence from a multi-year\, mixed-methods study on the Empowered Worldview program\, highlighting its impacts on hope\, self-efficacy and well-being in rural Tanzania. \nFrom 2019 to 2024\, World Vision International partnered with researchers from the University of Alberta and the Ifakara Health Institute in Tanzania to study the impact of the Empowered Worldview (EWV) program\, a faith-based behaviour change model that fosters spiritual renewal and mindset transformation. Conducted in two rural districts in Tanzania\, this mixed-methods research tested the EWV Theory of Change. \nProgram leaders\, along with researchers from the University of Alberta\, will present qualitative and quantitative insights\, highlighting the EWV model’s positive influence on hope\, self-efficacy\, self-reliance and child well-being. The event will also examine how faith\, household income and food security shaped participants’ experiences of change. \n“Empowered Worldview is a fascinating instance of how spiritual renewal can be paired with livelihood transformation as people build better futures for their children and their communities” ~ Dr. Amy Kaler\, University of Alberta\, Professor of Sociology

SUMMARY:Child Marriage Roundtable: Unpacking Gender Violence
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, 12 million girls are married before they turn 18. That is 22 girls every minute whose childhood\, dreams and education are cut short. The numbers are almost unfathomable: 650 million women and girls alive today were married as children – some organizations put this number as high as 700 million\, or just under 10% of the global population. \nJoin us on Thursday\, December 7th at 10:00 a.m. ET for a roundtable discussion with a panel of industry experts as we discuss this tragic form of gender-based violence. \nThere are many factors at play when a child ends up in an early or forced marriage. Most commonly\, girls from marginalized communities\, often in fragile or conflict-affected settings are the most at risk with poverty\, gender inequality\, tradition\, limited access to education and socially normalized perceptions of protection all contributing to what is at its core\, a fundamental violation of human rights. \nClick here to register!

SUMMARY:Engaging Men for Gender Equality
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, March 14th at 10:30am ET for a panel discussion on successfully engaging men for gender equality. \nCo-sponsored by Global Affairs Canada\, this panel will draw on initiatives\, programs and experiences from World Vision Canada’s partnership with World Vision Tanzania\, as well as Equimundo’s work in Rwanda and HOPEM Network’s work in Mozambique with younger men to showcase how engaging men as allies for gender equality is changing lives and creating a more gender-just world. \nIn order to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls to reach their life’s full potential\, discriminatory gender norms must be challenged and transformed at all levels – individual\, relationships\, community\, and society. While women and girls have enormous potential as advocates and change agents for their own equality\, men and boys also have a crucial role to play as allies and active participants in gender-transformative change. \nRegister for this free event today – we hope to see you there! \nThe event will be conducted in English\, with simultaneous French translation available.
