Description

CEV4 Project’s ultimate goal is to reduce hunger, improve nutrition and enhance food security of women, men, girls and boys of House holds (HHs) affected by Venezuela’s complex and prolonged economic crisis and COVID-19 impacts. Three intermediate outcomes are: stabilized/increased immediate consumption of food, stabilized/increased availability and access to food, and increased participation of women in decision-making. The activities are designed in a nexus approach with an aim to meet immediate food needs of 1,169 HHs through direct transfer for 6 months and continuation of livelihood activities for a sub-set of 596 HHs with potential to start/restore their agriculture and non-agricultural livelihoods so that they are able to meet their food security in medium and long-term. The food transfer in the first year will minimize likely negative coping strategies and will enable participants to pursue alternative livelihood options to minimize dependence on external food aid. At the same time, the project aims to increase awareness and capacity of women so that they can participate meaningfully in decision-making process in the project as well as within their households. Each HHs will get good ration to meet their 60% of calory needs through in-kind food transfer. Depending upon their existing knowledge, capacity, resources and enthusiasm, about 65% of livelihood HHs will be trained in good agriculture practices and about 35% in non-agricultural livelihoods. They will also get relevant inputs and tools to start or restore their livelihoods and coaching and mentoring from the project. The humanitarian and development components will complement each other to fulfill the project objective of tackling food insecurity and contributing to the protection/recovery of livelihoods. Furthermore, gender equality, both in the humanitarian and development components, will be reinforced through the training of female and male gender champions, a series of awareness-raising workshops and empowerment activities. Capacity building within the community will be sought through the creation and support of Community Advisory Committees, defining roles, and ensuring the equal participation of women so that they can feel safe and that their opinions are valued.
