SUMMARY:Counting What Counts: Implementing Beyond GDP Metrics
DESCRIPTION:Join leading experts to explore how countries can put new approaches to measuring progress into practice. \n\n\n\n\nThis event will be available in-person and online. Free to attend. \nAs countries prepare for the anticipated adoption of a UN Beyond GDP framework at the United Nations General Assembly\, there is growing recognition that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) alone cannot capture the full picture of progress. While it remains an essential measure of economic activity\, it overlooks critical dimensions such as inequality\, environmental sustainability\, and well-being. \nThe recent report of the UN High-Level Expert Group (HLEG)\, Counting What Counts: A Compass of Progress for People and Planet\, marks a significant milestone. It is a practical\, globally applicable framework that complements GDP with a dashboard of indicators\, signalling a clear shift in the conversation. The framework is closely linked to key international processes\, including the Pact for the Future and the 2030 Agenda\, with implications for how countries design policies\, allocate resources\, and assess long-term development pathways. \nThis context creates a timely opportunity to translate global recommendations into practical applications by supporting countries in integrating Beyond GDP metrics into national policy\, planning\, and statistical systems. \nCo-hosted by Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC)\, the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC)\, this event builds on the ongoing work of IISD and IDRC to support countries in advancing practical\, policy-relevant approaches to measuring progress beyond GDP. \nWho should attend: \nPolicymakers\, statistical leaders\, and experts on practical pathways for implementing Beyond GDP metrics at the national level. \nAdditional information for attendees: \n\nWhen you register\, please indicate your interest in attending in-person at the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat or attending online (Zoom) by selecting the relevant ticket option.\nNetworking/Refreshments: In-person attendees are encouraged to participate in an informal networking session and enjoy refreshments after the panels.\nPlease note that this event will be offered in English only.\n\nAttend here!
