SUMMARY:Igniting Hope - Inaugural Ottawa Civic Space Summit
DESCRIPTION:A Global Call to Protect What Makes Democracy Work \nAcross the world\, civic space is under attack—from digital surveillance and legal repression to the silencing of activists and shrinking public participation. Yet from the margins to the mainstream\, people are rising to defend the freedoms that make possible democracy\, human rights\, and justice. \nWhen civic space is protected\, communities thrive. It enables people to come together—through community associations\, farmers’ groups and cooperatives\, human rights organizations\, networks of health and education professionals\, climate champions and countless others working for a better world. The freedoms to gather\, speak up\, and organize are not abstract ideals—they are what make it possible to improve lives\, deliver essential services\, defend rights\, and build a more just and sustainable future. \nThe Ottawa Civic Space Summit is a new global platform to resist repression\, reclaim civic power\, and reimagine a more inclusive democratic future. This bold gathering will bring together civil society leaders\, civic space activists\, governments\, donors\, media\, academics\, and private sector allies to ignite hope and drive change. \n\n\n\n\nSummit Objectives \nDefend civic space as a cornerstone of democracy\, rights\, justice and sustainable development. \nCatalyze global momentum and political will to invest in and protect civic freedoms as foundational for social progress across all dimensions of sustainable development. \nReclaim civic space by strengthening collective resistance to its repression and fostering collaboration. \nFoster partnerships among governments\, civil society\, media\, academia\, and the private sector to counter the global rollback of civic space. Elevate the leadership\, voices\, and agency of youth\, women\, Indigenous peoples\, refugees and displaced people\, racialized communities\, LGBTQI+ persons\, and other marginalized groups. \nReimagine civic space to chart inclusive futures grounded in learning\, creativity\, and collective action. Advance transformative research\, innovative tools\, and coordinated strategies that respond to past and present challenges—while inspiring renewed vision\, resilience\, and inclusive civic renewal. \nWhat’s at Stake—and What We’ll Explore \nThe Ottawa Civic Space Summit will explore how civic space enables progress across all sectors—from gender equality\, climate action\, and racial justice to education\, health\, economic prosperity\, and humanitarian response. In a world facing growing crises and polarization\, civic space remains essential to our collective ability to organize\, respond\, and reimagine. \nDiscussions will examine the threats we face today—from digital surveillance and legal repression to disinformation and declining public trust—and the global forces behind them. \nTogether\, we’ll spotlight solutions: stronger solidarity across borders\, inclusive movements\, and bold approaches to safeguarding civic space in multilateral systems\, fragile contexts\, and emerging democracies alike. \nThrough this lens\, participants will engage with urgent questions: \n\nHow do we resist the shrinking of civic space across sectors and geographies?\nHow can donors\, governments\, and communities better fund and protect civic actors—including those in humanitarian and conflict-affected contexts?\nWhat role does civic space play in shaping inclusive economies and democratic renewal?\nHow can we centre intersectionality—across race\, gender\, age\, and Indigenous rights—in efforts to reclaim civic power?\n\nThese conversations will unfold through creative and participatory formats designed to foster deep reflection\, cross-cultural exchange\, connection\, and collective commitment. \nInformed by the latest research and grounded in frontline experience\, the summit will bring together global voices and visionary leaders to share ideas\, build alliances\, and explore concrete pathways to strengthen civic space around the world. \nAttend here!

SUMMARY:Child care for all summit 2.0
DESCRIPTION:Come together with child care advocates\, parents\, early childhood educators\, and community leaders from across Canada for a powerful opportunity to connect\, reflect\, and take collective action toward a more inclusive and equitable early learning and child care system.  \nThis two-day summit will offer space for deep conversation\, collaboration\, and learning\, with a focus on the intersectional barriers faced by those historically excluded from Canada’s formal child care systems — including Black\, racialized\, immigrant and refugee families\, gender-diverse parents\, parents with disabilities\, and parents of children with disabilities. These communities\, often overlooked in child care policy and planning\, will be at the center of this convening.  \nOur collective goal is to strengthen a diverse and feminist child care movement that centers lived experience\, addresses systemic barriers\, and drives forward the vision of $10-a-day child care for all.  \nWhat to expect \nOver two days\, participants will:  \n\nDeepen their understanding of systemic gaps in child care policy and provision\nExplore solutions and grassroots strategies to advance equity in child care\nStrengthen networks and partnerships across movements and regions\nStrengthen the tools\, skills\, and momentum needed to advocate effectively in their communities and engaging equity-seeking groups.\n\nHeld during the Canada-wide Days of Action for Early Learning and Child Care\, this summit is both a celebration of progress and call to action. It is an opportunity to align our visions\, share knowledge\, and take action toward a child care system that works for all families  \nWHO SHOULD APPLY? \nWhether you’re a parent\, early childhood educator\, advocate\, community leader\, or simply passionate about equitable access to early learning and child care\, this summit is for you! We welcome those with varying levels of experience in child care advocacy — whether you’re new to the field or a seasoned advocate\, your voice matters.  \nCome be part of this important movement\, learn\, and help shape the future of early learning and child care in Canada!  \nWe are committed to justice\, equity\, diversity\, and inclusion. In alignment with these principles\, bursaries are available for participants who need financial support to cover the costs of accommodations and transportation.   \nAttend here!

SUMMARY:Oxfam Canada Youth Summit 2025
DESCRIPTION:Real change happens when people come together and use their collective power to lift up their communities. Together we have the ability to represent an array of people\, issues and lived experiences\, all with a shared passion for advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and comprehensive sexuality education (CSE)\, and ending the injustice of poverty and inequality. That is why Oxfam Canada is calling on youth activists\, community leaders and passionate individuals from across the country to come together and attend the Youth Summit! \nAbout the Youth Summit! \nOxfam Canada will convene young SRHR activists from across Canada to gain skills related to providing\, educating on\, and advocating for CSE and SRHR in their communities. The Youth Summit is a free\, two-day summit that will be packed full of workshops\, inspiring speakers\, and breakout sessions focused on SRHR issues and advocacy. Participants will leave inspired\, connected\, knowledgeable and equipped with skills to advocate for positive change under the broad umbrella of SRHR\, including an explicit focus on 2SLGBTQIA+ CSE. \nApplicants from anywhere in Canada\, excluding Quebec\, aged 18-29 are welcome to apply. Our overarching goal with these spots is to support young 2SLGBTQ+ leaders by equipping them with the skills and knowledge not only to bring CSE into their community spaces using an intersectional feminist and anti-racist approach\, but also advocate for CSE\, SRHR\, and other 2SLGBTQ+ related issues in political settings. \nYouth will participate in interactive sessions that build their capacity in CSE that addresses the needs of diverse populations. They will also learn how to advocate for the needs of themselves and their communities\, specifically around CSE and SRH to decision makers.
