Reproductive Health Internship in Vietnam

Duration: 6 months, starting on Jan 30th, 2023

Overall Purpose

This internship will support the Global Affairs Canada funded project  Adolescent Reproductive Health in Nepal and Vietnam.  It will also support HealthBridge Vietnam to develop other SRHR and Gender Equality (GE) projects.  The position will be based in Hanoi Vietnam and may include occasional travel to field sites. 

 Key Duties and Responsibilities

This is an outline of the tasks and outputs the internship may entail. There is flexibility to tailor the internship according to the intern’s interests and competencies.

  • Support the project manager with project programming related to gender equality, SRHR, and adolescent reproductive health
  • Contribute to developing monitoring tools for project activities and provide technical input for context appropriate evaluation techniques by conducting literature review and community profiling
  • Prepare draft project reports for the project funder Global Affairs Canada including the annual report and annual workplan
  • Support HealthBridge Vietnam to develop other SRH and Gender Equality (GE) projects by reviewing and analyzing literature, national strategies, policies and laws related to SRHR and GE, especially for vulnerable groups including factory workers, particularly female workers/migrant women
  • Edit narrative reports, impact stories, and other communication materials in English
  • Use project findings from baseline to produce knowledge translations materials
  • Develop communications materials (eg. Social media posts, web updates, impact stories, infographics)

Deliverables

  • A detailed work plan covering activities and outputs that will be achieved during the internship, to be developed in collaboration with the supervisor
  • A final literature review or environmental scan on an SRHR topic (to be determined with the supervisor) to understand health care needs, enablers and challenges to accessing SRH services by different population subgroups
  • Tools developed for project monitoring & evaluation
  • Communications materials developed and finalized, including monthly social media posts with photos, quarterly web updates or impact stories with photos and infographics developed as needed

Education/Qualifications

  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree in global health, public health or an adjacent field
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

Experience

  • Experience conducting literature reviews
  • Experience conducting field research is an advantage
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working on global health and development projects, working in the field, working on SRHR or GE projects, and experience with monitoring and evaluation are assets
  • Strong organizational and time management skills as well as an ability to work independently

Language Skills

Oral and written fluency in English essential.  Capacity in other languages is desirable; Vietnamese is an asset.

Length of Internship

 Six month placement starting January 2023.

Compensation

This is an unpaid internship however, travel to and from the location and living expenses will be covered.
