Co-Designing a Justice-Centered Organizational AI Use Policy

Have an AI policy draft? Thinking about creating one? Not sure what “good” looks like, or whether using AI, such as generative AI, aligns with your mission at all? This session is a collaborative working space — not a lecture.
Together, we will compare, critique, and strengthen approaches to organizational AI policies in real time, using a feminist lens. Participants are invited to bring their own draft policies (or ideas), questions, and challenges. Together we will co-develop a practical AI policy structure, primarily for using generative AI, that reflects more equitable commitments, real-world organizational constraints, and accountability to the communities we serve.
This session will explore:
- How to evaluate whether AI use, or non-use, aligns with your organization’s values and mandate
- Where organizational AI use policies often fall short (liability shield vs. meaningful guidance)
- Real examples of organizational AI approaches, including those that resist or limit AI use
- Core components of a mission-aligned AI policy
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will leave with:
- A collaboratively developed AI policy template
- Shared insights from peers navigating similar tensions
- Practical ideas for implementation that go beyond drafting a document
This is a space for collective learning — whether your organization is experimenting with AI, cautiously exploring it, or still deciding whether adoption makes sense. The session structure is intentionally flexible; bring your questions, priorities, and real-world policy challenges!
