CanWaCH joins WickFest and Calgary Canucks for special game honouring community, resilience and the power of sport

November 30 Game Welcomes Ukraine U13 Wings Girls Team

CALGARY, AB – Saturday, November 30, 2024 – The Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH) is proud to partner with WickFest and the Calgary Canucks for an inspiring hockey game celebrating the unifying power of sport, leadership and community.

The game will take place on Saturday, November 30, at the Max Bell Centre, with a 5:00 p.m. puck drop as the Canucks face the Devon Xtreme.

The evening will feature a pre-game ceremony honoring the Ukraine U13 Wings Girls team, a talented group of young athletes whose visit to Canada symbolizes resilience and the transformative impact of sport.

Canadian hockey legend Hayley Wickenheiser, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and champion for women in sport, will lead the ceremony. Joining her will be the Honorable Lois Mitchell, an accomplished business leader and community advocate from Calgary. Also participating will be Julia Anderson, CEO of CanWaCH, a long-time advocate for the empowerment of women and girls, and a passionate hockey mom.

“At CanWaCH we believe sport is a pathway to girls’ health, and that healthy girls will change the world,” said Anderson. “CanWaCH is thrilled to partner with WickFest because it bridges the connection between sport, health and leadership, and it encourages girls to think beyond the rink.”

The event has also drawn broad support from the Calgary community and beyond. The Westin Calgary Airport, CARE Canada, and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Calgary Chapter have played an integral role in welcoming the team, alongside many Canadians inspired by the Wings’ journey.

The generous spirit of hockey fans across the country has been equally inspirational, including two women’s teams under the Island Pacific Female Hockey Association in British Columbia who pooled their donations to sponsor a special dinner for the Ukrainian team.

Tickets are available at Tickets.CalgaryCanucks.ca. Join us in celebrating the sport of hockey and the meaningful connections it fosters on and off the ice.
