In June 2023, Global Affairs Canada (GAC) held its first Risk Appetite Hackathon held in support of the department’s Grants and Contributions Transformation Initiative (GCTI).
The event took place over nine days and included over 350 participants from Canadian and international civil society organizations, local partner organizations, think tanks and the private sector. Participants were invited to use a digital collaborative platform, called Thought Exchange, which allowed for a hybrid audience to collaborate and provided feedback on GAC’s proposed solutions as well as the ideas and innovations of others. The event has proven to be valuable as over the last few months, the ideas and lessons learned throughout this process have been integrated into many aspects of the GCTI.
