Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Worldwide: A Canadian Perspective

In June of 2019, the Government of Canada announced that it would raise its funding to reach $1.4 billion annually, beginning in 2023, to support women and children’s health and rights around the world. A ten-year commitment, this investment includes $700 million dedicated to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) as of 2023. This commitment includes a focus on the most neglected areas of SRHR and in turn, establishes Canada as a significant donor and global leader in the SRHR landscape. The following interactive visuals illustrate support provided to date for the protection and advancement of SRHR for everyone everywhere. They cover a wide range of areas of women’s health including reproductive health and rights (including access to family planning and comprehensive contraceptive care, safe and legal abortion and post-abortion care); sexual health and rights (including comprehensive sexuality education, adolescent SRHR, advocacy for SRHR, the prevention and treatment of HIV and sexually transmitted infections), preventing and addressing gender-based violence. Progress in advancing these efforts is made possible through comprehensive and integrated approaches with support for stronger health systems and essential services.
