Nominations Now Open! 2020 CanWaCH Awards 

CanWaCH is proud to present its third annual Awards for Canadian Excellence in Global Health and Gender Equality. These prestigious honours will be bestowed upon individuals and organizations who have demonstrated significant contribution towards Canada’s advancement of global health and gender equality in the following seven categories: Leadership, Gender Equality, Measuring Impact, Rising Star, Savvy Communicator, Private Sector Excellence and Partnership.

The Awards will be presented on April 28 in Ottawa, at an evening reception as part of the Global Health Impact Expo + ExchangeVisit our awards page to nominate someone today. Don’t forget to stay tuned to our website as registration for the Expo will also be opening soon!

International Development Week 2020 

This year’s International Development Week theme is “Go for the Goals”. Referring to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, this theme illustrates the idea of moving forward in a collaborative and positive way toward a better world. So, for IDW’s 30th anniversary, let’s #GoForTheGoals!

JOIN US! IDW 2020 Reception in Ottawa

Join CanWaCH and the Canadian Council for International Cooperation (CCIC) in celebrating IDW 2020 with members of Canada’s international development community in Ottawa on Thursday, February 6th from 5:00-7:00 pm. RSVP here.

Climate Change & Nutrition: Food for Thought

In partnership with the University of Ottawa’s International Development and Globalization Student Association, Nutrition International and World Vision Canada will host Climate Change & Nutrition: Food for Thought, a panel discussion exploring the connection between climate change and nutrition. It will also feature a case study and profile the work of a consortium of organizations that is trying to mitigate the negative effects of climate change in Senegal through the Project intégré de nutrition dans les regions de Kolda et de Kédougou (PINKK). Join us online on Saturday, February 8th at 9:00 am to watch the live-stream of the panel discussion on Nutrition International’s Facebook page.

How access to clean water is opening doors for girls’ education 

To prevent the spread of blinding trachoma, Operation Eyesight drilled a borehole to bring clean water and sanitary facilities to Mweela School in Zambia, and the number of girls enrolled at the school has soared since then! Many girls in developing countries are missing out on educational opportunities due to a lack of access to clean water and sanitary facilities. Learn more in the latest blog from Operation Eyesight!

How is HIV connected to Gender Based Violence?

CanWaCH and Frontline AIDS are continuing the conversation about Gender Based Violence and how it is connected to HIV around the world. We cannot lose sight of these connections as we prepare for #IDW2020! HealthBridge: Local Husbands’ Groups

Gaddu lives in Banke District, one of the poorest areas in rural Nepal with his wife, two daughters, and a son. He works as a farmer and sometimes goes to India to earn money. Gaddu is a member of the local Husbands’ Group. At the Group’s meetings, he receives health education and discusses topics such as the importance of breastfeeding, antenatal and postnatal care. The Husbands’ Groups are a part of a larger Maternal, Newborn & Child Health Project at HealthBridge. Learn more about HealthBridge’s work in Nepal here.
