March 19, 2018 – Ottawa, Ontario – Canada continues to take a leadership role by championing the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women and girls globally.
The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, today promoted a new call for preliminary proposals entitled Partnerships for Her Voice, Her Choice. The $40-million call is aimed at Canadian organizations working to improve the SRHR of women and adolescent girls in developing countries.
This call is part of the $650-million funding over three years announced in March 2017 by Minister Bibeau to address the gaps in SRHR with the help of experienced global, local and Canadian partners. Canadian organizations are invited to submit initiatives that propose concrete ways to increase demand for, supply of and access to high-quality SRHR services and to address issues of rights, with a particular focus on adolescents and advocacy.
“Sexual and reproductive health and rights are human rights. By working with partners and supporting Canadian NGOs, we help them bring about real and lasting change that will empower women and girls everywhere to be in control of their bodies and make their own decisions.”
– Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and of La Francophonie
By committing to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, this call further demonstrates the Government of Canada’s continued efforts to advance the priorities of Canada’s new Feminist International Assistance Policy.
The call for preliminary proposals opened on March 16, 2018. The deadline to submit proposals is May 1, 2018.
