Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Canada is doubling its annual contribution to the Global Partnership on Education (GPE) with a pledge of $180 million over 3 years.
The Prime Minister made the announcement during a World Economic Forum Panel on the importance of education in empowering women and girls. Next week, the GPE will hold its third replenishment conference and it will gather developing and donor countries, multilateral organizations, civil society, private sector, and philanthropic foundations in Dakar, Senegal. The Conference, hosted by France and Senegal, seeks to increase financing for sustainable and resilient education systems around the world.
“Canada is committed to making sure young people around the world, especially girls, get the education they deserve. A quality basic education is one of the most important things we can do for children, and the path forward to a more gender equal, peaceful, prosperous world.”
