Stakeholder and Public Engagement Activities During COVID-19

Dear Members,

We want to let you know about a new effort to support the global health and international development sectors international cooperation sector as we grapple with the communications, political and public engagement challenges of the COVID-19 crisis.

We have heard from our members and other sector partners that more coordination is needed in these areas as we navigate this fast-changing environment. With this in mind, CanWaCH and CCIC have formed a small task team geared to support the sector’s COVID-related needs. Lauren Dobson-Hughes – a familiar face to many of you – has agreed to lead this effort as Senior Advisor, Public Affairs with CCIC and will be working with Megan Aikens (CanWaCH) and Erika Richter (CCIC).

We will trial public messaging, showcase stories of Canadian excellence and highlight critical gaps and challenges for the communities we serve. We look forward to involving you in all of this work. In the next month, the task team will:

  • Hold a Parliamentary education session to help MPs connect to the reality for Canadian aid and health workers on the frontlines of the global fight
  • Organise a national grassroots call to bring together advocacy volunteers in solidarity
  • Undertake some targeted public communications to raise the profile of our vital work

We will be working closely with you to organize each of these activities. As a starting point, we seek to share and amplify stories of how your organizations are responding to the current crisis and making a difference.  We need to make clear all that CSOs are doing and have to offer. Please share stories of how you are pivoting programming or how your frontline workers are responding in the field here.

CanWaCH continues to host Webinar Wednesdays to support our members and partners as Canadians pull together to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. You can find upcoming webinars and past webinar recordings and resources here.

Please continue to let us know how we can continue to support you during this time.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to Megan with any questions.

Best regards,

CanWaCH
