Why International Development Week should matter to you

What is international development week?

For the last thirty years, Canada has started off February with a week-long celebration of the work that Canadians are doing every day to make the world a better place – known as International Development Week!

International Development includes projects in Tanzania to keep girls in school, work in India to improve access to clean water, investing in clinics to improve maternal healthcare in rural regions of Vietnam and so much more! Almost any global issue you can think of has a Canadian working to fix it somewhere around the world.

Why does it matter?

Global issues like climate change and disease know no borders. Issues that are impacting citizens around the world have an impact on all of us, including Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

Want to know Canada’s best-kept secret? We are leading innovative thinkers and inventors in global health and gender equality! So why keep that expertise to ourselves? Knowledge is power, so let’s share it with change-makers working across Canada and around the world!

What can you do?

Find a global issue that you are passionate about. Then, find a Canadian organization working in that area. Learn more and support their work. Follow them on social media, or subscribe to their newsletter. Your support matters and it’s as easy as clicking a button.
