Embedding Intersectionality in Programs and Policy Design
Move Beyond Theory. Design for Real Impact.
This session is designed for practitioners who already have a foundational understanding of intersectionality and are asking: what does this actually look like in practice? Whether you work in program design, policy, or implementation, this session will equip you with the tools to create more inclusive, equitable, and effective interventions.
Co-hosted by Cooperation Canada and facilitated by Kareema Batal, the workshop offers a thoughtful, practical space to examine your current approaches, uncover gaps, and strengthen your work. You’ll engage with real-world development challenges, reflect on your own practice, and learn alongside peers facing similar complexities.
Rather than staying at the level of theory, this session focuses on application. You’ll leave with concrete strategies to identify blind spots, mitigate unintended harm, and design programs that better reflect the realities of the communities you serve.
What You’ll Gain
- Practical ways to apply intersectional thinking to your programs and policies
- Tools to identify hidden gaps, blindspots and unintended consequences in your work
- Approaches to designing work that is more responsive to lived realities
- New perspectives on dominant development frameworks—including alternatives to FIAP—through a justice lens
