Come learn about the practical “how-to” of designing ethical AI chatbots in real-world development contexts. Drawing on hands-on experience from Girl Effect’s (https://www.girleffect.org/) chatbot work, this session explores how to design AI tools that are useful, safe, and grounded in the realities of the communities we serve.
Participants will:
- Learn how to design an ethical chatbot — from early decisions to real-world deployment
- Gain practical tips and recommendations (what worked, what didn’t, what surprised us)
- Understand common risks and unexpected challenges — and how to navigate them
- Identify key design choices related to safeguarding, bias mitigation, and user-centered design in AI tools
- Try out an ethical chatbot yourself through a hands-on demo and interactive exploration
