Hiring Range: $62,500 to $66,000 with competitive benefits

THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you an organized, client-centred individual, with some accounting experience, who loves to make a difference in the world? The Accounting Officer is an integral part of the Finance team and works in close collaboration with members of teams across all offices in Canada and Africa. Reporting to the Director, Finance and Administration, the incumbent is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and reconciliation of Canadian asset and liability accounts including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, bank accounts, and capital assets. The AO is also responsible for processing the Canadian payroll and works closely with the Human Resources team to ensure proper maintenance of employee records.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  1. Management of Asset and Liability Accounts (40%)
  • Review subledger entries prepared by the AP Administrator and regional offices for accuracy
  • Ensure the integrity of the data in the AP subledger including completeness of supporting documentation
  • Monthly reconciliation and associated journal entries for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Advances, and other accounts
  • Provide guidance to the AP Administrator
  • Provide training to staff and volunteers on topics such as AP processes, chart of accounts and financial policies
  1. Treasury (20%)
  • Regular reconciliation of the Canadian bank accounts in Financial Edge
  • Monitor daily bank balance and transactions and prepare transfers based on anticipated cash flow needs
  • Filing of HST/QST/GST remittances
  1. Payroll Administration and Processing (15%)
  • Semi-monthly processing of Canadian payroll with ADP and associated entries
  • Completing statutory filings and reconciliations
  • Manage allocation of payroll to applicable projects
  • Work closely with HR team to onboard new staff and maintain personnel records
  1. Financial Reporting (15%)
  • Preparing journal entries and reconciliation reports in support of the monthly close process
  • Support for internal and external reporting requirements, including funder reports and annual audits
  • Preparation of other reports as needed to support operational and strategic needs
  1. Process Improvement, Administration, and Other Duties (10%)
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and recommend revised procedures where warranted, particularly with respect to financial controls
  • Support the development and implementation of financial projects, including systems enhancements
  • Periodic support in filing and general office administration
  • Support organizational goals and objectives as part of the strategic and operational plans

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO CROSSROADS

  • Minimum language requirements:
    • English (advanced)
    • French preferred (intermediate to advanced)
  • Post-secondary diploma in Accounting, Business Administration or relevant field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of full cycle accounting experience in a computerized environment
  • Knowledge and experience in applying relevant accounting principles (Canadian GAAP)
  • Previous experience within a not-for-profit environment is an asset; interest in international development and/or volunteer organizations preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Excel; experience with Financial Edge an asset
  • Very strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
