Job Purpose:

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a key executive leader responsible for overseeing and driving Islamic Relief Canada’s growth. The CDO will develop and execute strategies for community engagement, major gifts, marketing and the donor journey. They will be expected to utilise innovative technologies and data insights to support the organisation’s mission and growth. This role requires a visionary leader with a proven track record in fundraising, strategic planning, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Engagement:

  • Develop and oversee high performing community engagement teams across Canada to enhance the organisation’s visibility and grass roots support
  • Foster strong relationships with community leaders and partners.
  • Represent the organisation at community events and other public engagements to promote the mission and programs.

Major Gifts:

  • Oversee the design and execution of a major gifts program, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-net-worth individuals and organisations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major donors, ensuring personalised communication and engagement.

Marketing:

  • Provide strategic leadership to deploy comprehensive marketing strategies (including brand, content, digital and social) to increase brand awareness, donor engagement and funds raised.
  • Ensure consistent and compelling messaging and brand across all marketing channels to effectively communicate the organisation’s impact.

Donor Journey:

  • Develop and implement a donor journey strategy that enhances donor acquisition and retention.
  • Create personalised and meaningful donor experiences through targeted communication, recognition, and engagement initiatives.
  • Utilise data and insights to continuously improve the donor journey and identify opportunities for increased donor involvement.

Innovation:

  • Leverage technology to optimise fundraising operations, donor management, and marketing efforts.
  • Focus on introducing innovative and transformative initiatives to revolutionise the approach to fund development in the charitable sector.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices to enhance the organisation’s development capabilities.

Organisational Leadership:

  • Serve as a vital member of the executive leadership team, contributing to the organisation’s overall strategic direction and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to align development goals with organisational priorities and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to the team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in nonprofit development, major gifts or marketing
  • Passion for the mission and alignment with the values of Islamic Relief Canada.
  • Proven experience in community engagement and relationship-building with key stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Track record of learning and growth mindset
