The Communications Advisor will work with the Director of Communications to raise the visibility of  Amref Health Africa in Canada among target audiences through a broad range of strategies and  tactics with a focus on digital communications. The Communications Advisor will also write and edit  communications materials for donors. 
The Communications Advisor be supervised and mentored by the Director of Communications. 

Responsibilities 

  • Create engaging content for social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn,  YouTube)
  • Monitor social media engagement and recommend areas for improvement ∙ Monitor and research influencers and trending topics
  • Assist with coordinating the editorial calendar for digital platforms
  • Write and post website content
  • Write and distribute monthly e-newsletter
  • Support staff in creation of presentation materials (PowerPoint or Google Slides) ∙ Event planning and co-ordination support
  • General administrative and communications support as assigned   

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Support for Amref Health Africa’s vision for lasting health change in Africa ∙ Working knowledge in planning, managing and executing digital media programs and  initiatives
  • Experience creating content for web, social and digital channels 
  • Exceptional writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong internal and external relationship building skills
  • Excellent project management skills with a high-level of accountability for the quality and  timely completion of projects; strong planning, time management and organizational skills;  ability to manage many projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Proficient in computer and Microsoft Office Suite programs and the Google Environment
  • Education & Experience 
  • Pursuing a university degree or college diploma in journalism, communications, marketing or  a related field 

Work Environment 

  • The applicant will work remotely following the organization’s standard working hours.  • This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive  movements

As the funding for this position comes from Service Canada’s 2021 Canada Summer Jobs program,  applicants MUST meet the following specific criteria. 
(a) is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; (b) is a Canadian Citizen, OR permanent resident, OR person on whom refugee protection has been  conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and (c) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and  regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens  or permanent residents.
