About the Job

Under the supervision of the Communications Manager, the Communications Assistant is responsible for supporting effective external communications for the organization. The Communications Assistant supports the Communications Manager by providing assistance in the conception and implementation of Cooperation Canada’s communications and marketing initiatives particularly in the areas of content development, copy review and social media; as well as any other priorities which may be identified. As a generalist in communications with a professional expertise in the written French language, the Communications Assistant brings with them a range of skills and experience covering website administration, graphic design, content development and email marketing.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Website Content Creation and Administration (30%)

  • Write blogs on relevant and timely topics;
  • Develop and update content on Cooperation Canada webpages;
  • Add events to online event calendar.

2. French language translation and copy editing (25%)

  • Proofread and edit French text produced by the Cooperation Canada team for public dissemination;
  • With the use of translation software and applications, manage translations of content for public dissemination. Proofread and copy edit as required for quality control and language coherence.

3. Social Media (15%)

  • Develop and schedule content for Cooperation Canada’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn);
  • Maintain online presence by engaging with stakeholders on social media;
  • Manage any paid, promoted content;
  • Amplify Cooperation Canada members’ work by sharing member content.

4. Email Marketing (15%)

  • Develop and curate content for Cooperation Canada’s newsletters;
  • Design and disseminate newsletters;
  • Maintain updated distribution lists in close collaboration with stakeholder management team.

5. Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing (10%)

  • Design graphics to accompany social media and web content;
  • Design digital and print collateral.

6. Other (5%)

  • Perform other duties identified as a priority by the Communications Manager.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential:

  • Minimum of two years relevant experience;
  • College diploma or university degree in communications, marketing, journalism or in a related field;
  • Bilingual in Canada’s official languages (written and spoken). Professional high-quality French language writing skills are essential and will be tested during the selection process;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an excellent team player;
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience with modern office tools (e.g., MS Office), WordPress (or other CMS), social media platforms, Canva (or equivalent) and MailChimp;
  • Experience with graphic design applications;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Superior attention to detail;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with SEO best practices;
  • Experience working with a CRM;
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suites (particularly Photoshop and InDesign);
  • Familiarity with development and humanitarian issues;
  • Familiarity with Canada’s international policy development processes.
