Communications Manager

Health Systems Global (HSG) is a Society with a diverse global membership that connects the health systems research, policy and practice communities toward health system development, and contributes to the attainment of better health, equity and well-being.

HSG, through the Secretariat hosted by the Canadian Association for Global Health (CAGH), is hiring a full-time Manager of Communications to effectively profile and give visibility to its activities, key programs and events. This includes the planning, creation and/or curation and implementation of creative online content across several digital mediums, maintenance of the website and all ancillary websites, management of social media channels, and monitoring and reporting of digital analytics and trends. This is primarily a remote position, though applicants must be able to work in the Eastern time zone) and be able to demonstrate 5 or more years of related experience.

Position Title:
Communications Manager
Location: Virtual – must be able to work in the Eastern time zone. Occasional travel may be required
Reporting To: HSG Executive Director
Level of Effort: Full-time
Salary range: commensurate with experience and aligned to market conditions

POSITION OVERVIEW
Planning and Management

  • Create and implement communications plans for HSG projects, programs, and events;
  • Manage internal inputs and outsourced services in support of communications deliverables;
  • Manage and where applicable, oversee HSG digital platforms including social channels;
  • Lead on the design and delivery of communications assets and briefing note, speaking notes and presentations as required;
  • Develop campaigns in support of advocacy efforts led by the HSG Board;
  • Prepare and report on digital analytics and metrics

Digital and Online Communications:

  • Oversee the design and development of social media content for HSG, its projects, and management of social communities – compelling content, email marketing, videos, webinars, infographics and imagery;
  • Write, edit, and distribute content that communicates project activities, including publications, through online channels (website and e-newsletters)
  • Manage websites to create pleasant, effective, user-friendly experiences
  • Integrate all channels of communication (social media, email, print, and digital marketing) to ensure content is current, accurate and reflects a web presence aligned with all associated activities, and that brand identity is reflected accurately, appropriately, and consistently.
  • Media monitoring and social listening.

Media Relations

  • Proactively engage media around HSG activities;
  • Develop media talking points for HSG Board and senior leadership team;
  • Draft Op-Eds on behalf of HSG Board and senior leadership team and copy edit key editorial pieces;
  • Facilitate the response to media inquiries

Project/Program and Event Support:

  • Raise awareness of project/program activities and events through owned digital channels and social networking sites, (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube), blogs, link-sharing, and email marketing.
  • Assist team members in the preparation and formatting of publications and reports.
  • Attend organization’s events and provide corresponding live coverage on social media.
  • Assist in other duties as reasonably requested by the Executive Director and Events Manager

Advocacy and Partner Relations

  • Support the HSG Board Advocacy Working Group to produce effective messaging and materials;
  • Work with partners and coalitions on the development and execution of communications strategies and deliverables;
  • Collaborate with partners and funders on events, campaigns and publications.

Qualifications

  • University degree or college diploma in a related field (journalism, communications)
  • Minimum of five years experience in communications or advocacy
  • Experience within a global health organization, specifically health policy and systems research, is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in English is essential, proficiency in French or Spanish is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of website design software, graphics/editing software, social media platforms, google analytics or other relevant software.
  • Experience in graphic design and/or video production or editing is an asset.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Ability to travel to Board meetings and the Global Symposia will be required.
