About Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, India

Aga Khan Agency for Habitat India (AKAH India) is a not-for-profit network agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private, non-denominational and international development agencies. AKAH was established in 2000 to develop a holistic approach for addressing safe, resilient, and sustainable habitat, conducive for development of communities to improve their “Quality of Life”, especially in the wake of climate change, rapid urbanization, and pressing needs for sustainability.

The vision of the organization is to ensure that underserved communities live in physical settings that are safe from the effects of natural and man-made disasters, that the members living in these settings have access to health, social, and financial services leading to enhanced and sustainable opportunities for a better quality of life.

AKAH India works in work in climate change resilience programs across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Telangana. We have various programs under environmental planning, water security, water governance, increasing green cover, disaster risk reduction, biodiversity conservation, green building, urban heat island, and rural housing development.

Summary of Position

The successful candidate will assist in designing and implementing organization communication strategy and plans. They will work closely with the Manager of Resource Mobilization & Communications, and the Program Team. The role includes assisting the Manager of Resource Mobilization & Communications to drive organizational and communications objectives at the national level; coordinating with teams to create, collate and deliver textual, audio and visual content; ensuring consistency in all communications; building external and internal stakeholder trust and advocacy; and building national and regional media relationships.

Responsibilities

Assist the Manager of Resource Management & Communications in the design and implementation of the organization’s communications strategy, in close collaboration with the Program Team, across the following dimensions:

  • Type of content to be captured, curated, and disseminated (e.g., AKAH India’s model, interventions, program impact)
  • Type of communication forms (e.g., films, presentations, articles, case studies)
  • Right channels and platforms to disseminate the content
  • Different target audiences, ensuring content is crafted accordingly
  • Writing articles, blogs, and thought pieces for the AKDN website and other related platforms
  • Plan, design, develop, and collate communication materials for social media posts (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn), monthly newsletters, annual reports
  • Attend relevant events and communicate with stakeholders to churn out content for newsletters and social media pages
  • Ideate and implement ways to increase the organization’s reach to current and potential stakeholders
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the program teams to identify, collect and synthesize various content

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduate/Post-graduate Degree from a reputable institution
  • Additional qualification(s) in communication and social media planning would be desirable

English proficiency required
