Are you passionate about making a difference in global health? Do you have a knack for engaging communities and inspiring donors? Amref is looking for a dedicated Development Officer to lead our Annual Fundraising plan. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, you’ll play a key role in driving donor acquisition, retention, and engagement, also leading Amrefs digital fundraising and database CRM. This position is perfect for someone with a strategic mind and a heart for philanthropy.
Fund Development:
- Lead Monthly & Annual Giving Programs: Manage donor relations, campaigns, and stewardship activities with a focus on monthly giving retention.
- Create Impactful Campaigns: Develop and deploy cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation materials, including appeals.
- Donor Tracking: Maintain comprehensive lists of foundation and corporate gifts, ensuring prompt stewardship and reporting.
- Metrics & Reporting: Track philanthropy KPIs and create campaign and quarterly fundraising reports.
- Mid-Level Giving Strategies: Manage a portfolio of donors up to $5,000, supporting their journey along the donor pipeline.
- Appeal Coordination: Oversee the production and mailing of donor appeal letters and contribute to digital fundraising strategies.
- Annual Report Support: Manage donor outreach for the annual report and other stakeholder reports.
Donor Relations and Stewardship:
- Stewardship Leadership: Ensure a positive donor experience through responsive communications.
- Acknowledge Donors: Lead donor acknowledgments with personalized thank you letters and stewardship materials.
- Donor Reports: Develop impactful donor reports and tailored content.
- Donor Site Visits: Coordinate donor site visits and communications.
- Issue Management: Address donor stewardship issues and implement communication plans.
- Event Support: Manage donor engagement elements for special projects and events.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations and best practices.
- Support Major Giving: Collaborate with major giving efforts by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects.
- Financial Coordination: Work with the Finance Coordinator to process donations and prepare thank you letters and tax receipts.
CRM/Database Coordination:
- Data Integrity: Maintain donor and prospect data in MS Dynamix database.
- Online Fundraising: Supervise online fundraising portals and ensure accurate data entry.
- Tax Receipting: Issue tax receipts for eligible donations.
- Donation Processing: Support accurate processing of online and mail donations.
- Database Support: Provide database/list support for communication platforms.
- HQ Compliance: Ensure compliance with CRM Agreement deliverables, including data privacy.
- Relationship Management: Serve as the key contact with Amref HQ for CRM issues.
Administrative Coordination:
- Team Support: Assist with scheduling, meeting coordination, document tracking, expense submissions, event logistics, and presentations.
- Financial Processes: Facilitate financial administrative processes like procurement and budgeting.
- Donor Inquiries: Handle general donor inquiries to maintain excellent support.
- Board Support: Provide staff support to the Fundraising Committee of the Board, including agenda development and meeting notes.
- Retreat Planning: Coordinate philanthropy team retreats.
- Additional Duties: Undertake additional administrative and team support tasks as required.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: 3+ years in nonprofit fundraising, with experience in donor communications and event support.
- Education: Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Skills: Proficient in CRM software (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, MS Dynamix), Microsoft Office Suite, and donor payment solutions (e.g., iATS).
- Attributes: Strong relationship management, ethical standards, and ability to handle sensitive information. Excellent writing, presentation, and time management skills. Flexible, adaptive, and selfdirected.

Working Conditions
Amref Health Africa in Canada uses a hybrid work model (currently 2 days per week in office). Beyond standard office hours, the role requires flexible working hours to effectively coordinate with our global colleagues and may include occasional evenings or weekends and some travel.
