Director, Indigenous Partnerships and Programs

Are you a leader who can tackle complex issues while maintaining relations and inspiring an engaged and purpose driven team? Are you a strategic leader with cultural competency, and a growth mindset? Do you share our passion for improving the lives of children and youth, and do you thrive in a collaborative, values-based culture? If so, please consider applying for this role.

As the Director, Indigenous Partnerships and Programs, you’ll be responsible for providing overall leadership, vision, and strategic direction to CFTC’s growing Indigenous programs and partnerships. Reporting to the VP Programs, you will lead the Indigenous Partnerships & Programs Team to support partners and communities in the design, delivery, and high-quality reporting of impactful and innovative community-led programs aligned to CFTC’s Program Strategy, with a particular focus on food security, sovereignty, and self-determination. For this role, the candidate must be of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Métis or Inuit). We encourage all First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples in Canada or Indigenous Peoples of North America, to self-identify in their applications.

Currently, CFTC works in partnership with 31 Indigenous First Nations, Inuit, and Urban Indigenous communities and partners in Canada. In this role you will develop a long-term strategy to increase the scale, quality, and impact of our programs and partnerships, while ensuring learning, reflection, and community feedback is integrated throughout the strategy.

The ideal candidate has strong connections with Indigenous communities, Indigenous-led organizations, and Indigenous-led social change and food security movements across Canada. We are looking for an experienced relationship builder and strategic thinker, who can work to identify opportunities to create equitable, transparent, and relational partnerships with Indigenous Peoples, partner organizations, and communities across Canada. A key part of this role will be working in collaboration with the Development Team and the Indigenous Business Development and Policy Manager, to provide leadership and technical program design to mobilize resources and prepare high quality proposals for Indigenous programs, ensuring alignment to community priorities.

You will be responsible for building alliances with other organizations who work with Indigenous Peoples in Canada and will participate in collective efforts to advance policy and advocate on issues of importance to Indigenous communities in key CFTC programming areas.

What we’re looking for:
• For this role, the candidate must be of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Métis or Inuit). We encourage all First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples of Canada or Indigenous Peoples of North America, to self-identify in their applications.
• You have a Bachelors degree or – just as valuable – an equivalent combination of experience and education in Indigenous community-development, food security, or a related field
• You bring a deep knowledge of the historical and current context for Indigenous Peoples in Canada, and a practical understanding of Indigenous communitydevelopment priorities and approaches to partnerships and programs that support these priorities
• You have significant management experience in providing overall strategic and technical leadership in the design, implementation, and evaluation of partner-led community development programs
• We want to learn, reflect, and improve, and you will contribute to that through your keen appreciation of stakeholder engagement and data use for learning and improvement. Some of which will have come from monitoring, evaluating, and applying learning from programs, and scaling up successful community-led evidence-based programs and initiatives
• You have a proven ability to build and enhance equitable and transparent relationships with key stakeholders, including communities, partner organizations, donors, government staff; and the ability to support direct reports to do the same
• You demonstrate the principles of inclusive leadership by empowering employees, encouraging collaboration, and defining a team culture rooted in respect, collaboration, and performance excellence.
• You can mentor and coach staff to excel to their full potential and meaningfully contribute through ongoing change.
• You have experience with digital tools, including an ability to work with Microsoft Office 365 and prepare and complete budgets and financial reports in Excel
• You have excellent communication skills, including experience preparing and delivering high-quality written reports and presentations
• You are excited to actively contribute to our collaborative culture, and proactively provide ideas on how to improve our partnerships, operations, and program impact.

What would make you extraordinary?
• You have experience and technical understanding of the food security / sovereignty context with Indigenous communities in Canada
• Working knowledge of an Indigenous language(s) is an asset
• You have experience preparing/delivering multi-year proposals and/or other institutional grants with solid understanding of managing government funding and foundations
• Program leadership experience in an Indigenous non-profit or charitable organization
