job description – overview

As Director of Communications and Outreach, your role will be to develop, manage, and implement strategies to amplify Results Canada’s brand and support our campaign objectives, guide efforts to support and grow our network of volunteer advocates, and oversee our individual giving strategy and tactics.

key tasks

  • Oversee the work of the communications and public engagement teams, which includes four full time staff, occasional staff, consultants, and interns – and in doing so, create space for emerging leaders and encourage creativity among the team
  • Project management – responsible for advancing multi-faceted projects, that incorporate results-based frameworks for tracking progress and outcomes
  • Oversee Results Canada’s strategic communications efforts to advance advocacy campaigns, including ongoing calls-to-action, special projects, and events, and advance Results Canada’s media strategy and engagement (earned, bought, shared)
  • Guide Results Canada’s public engagement efforts – overseeing strategy for volunteer support and retention
  • Oversee strategy for volunteer growth in terms of total active volunteers, number of groups, and expansion in key regions
  • Oversee an individual giving strategy, refining processes, and developing tools to engage current and prospective donors
  • Develop and oversee Results Canada’s earned revenue streams, that include advocacy-based training and supports and other areas of advocacy-focussed capacity building
  • As a member of the management team, support overall organizational priorities
  • Represent Results Canada at public events, forums, conferences, as required
  • Willingness to work outside of office hours as required and ability to travel occasionally

desired skills and experience

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience (i.e., communications, public relations, strategic partnerships, etc.)
  • Background in strategic communications and in developing communications tools and tactics that are clear, creative, compelling, and fit for purpose (print, digital, video, etc)
  • Experience in media relations
  • Strong grasp of advocacy and the tools and tactics that can generate impact
  • Experience supporting a volunteer network – understanding the motivators, tools, and supports needed to keep volunteers engaged
  • Experience in donor management, retention, and growth strategies
  • Experience managing a team, including work planning, budgeting, mentoring and performance evaluation
  • Knowledge of key issues relating to international development, advocacy, and poverty eradication is an asset
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset
