Summary

The Director of Development leads and manages fund development at Operation Eyesight (OE) and is responsible for building a healthy and engaged donor pipeline to support the organization. Working with the VP, Advancement, this role includes implementation and management of annual giving and major gifts strategies; stewardship of the planned giving program while at the same time managing a pipeline of donors and prospective donors.

Description

The Director of Development leads and manages fund development at Operation Eyesight (OE) and is responsible for building a healthy and engaged donor pipeline to support the organization. Working with the VP, Advancement, this role includes implementation and management of annual giving and major gifts strategies; stewardship of the planned giving program while at the same time managing a pipeline of donors and prospective donors. We are seeking someone to help us continue our momentum, to deepen our donors’ engagement with our mission and to be a part of the team to make Operation Eyesight a household name.

This role requires a deep thinker who is tactical and outcomes focused and is motivated by building connections between the donors and our mission. Experience working in a senior role in a successful fundraising team is essential, while the ability to build sustainable relationships with a wide range of donors and key stakeholders will ensure success in this role. This position plays an important role in shaping the future of Operation Eyesight.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To grow and steward the donor pipeline for annual giving, major gifts, and legacy giving.
  • Support the strategic direction of Operation Eyesight.
  • Devise and implement new initiatives that increase philanthropic revenue.
  • Manage, mentor, and lead development team members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Vice President, Advancement in relation to the strategic direction of Operation Eyesight.
    • Support in developing and executing fundraising goals in order to support the implementation of the Global Strategy.
    • Support in developing and executing the Advancement strategy.
  • Give priority to the growth and stewardship of the donor pipeline.
    • Responsible for the strategic planning, development, and management of giving activities to meet giving targets, including the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of annual, major, planned and campaign gift donors.
    • Working in close collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Communications, this role is responsible to execute the annual giving strategy for our direct mail and digital marketing with a goal to increase the annual giving revenue to $1 million per year;
    • Manage a portfolio of major gift donors ensuring relationships remain strong throughout the organization.
    • This position is responsible for overseeing the strategic plan of team members responsible for the Planned Giving Program as they steward existing legacy donors, and increasing the planned giving pipeline.
    • Accurately record information about, and communication with all prospects and donors – including research material, engagement plans, stewardship plans and meeting reports.
    • Work closely with marketing and communications team to create and maintain marketing and communication materials that assist in developing and maintaining powerful donor relationships.
    • Develop and implement plans to meet giving targets, including the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of annual, major, planned and campaign gift donors.
    • Manage a portfolio of existing donors ensuring relationships remain strong throughout the  organization.
    • Work with the Vice President, Advancement to devise and implement new initiatives that increase philanthropic revenue.
    • Nurture and grow relationships with trusts and foundations and oversee reporting and application processes.
  • Positively lead and manager the Donor Relations Team
    • Foster positive working relationship with Development staff, leading and empowering the team to successfully meet the needs of the organization and the people it serves.
    • Provide regular performance feedback through informal conversations as well as through the annual performance review process.
  • Ensure staff members’ compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by the VP, Advancement or President/CEO.

  • Established knowledge and experience of the not-for-profit sector
  • Experience with Salesforce an asset

Education/Experience/Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or a combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in major gift fundraising, with demonstrated success in in raising six figure gifts
  • Proven track record of managing solicitations and relationships with high net worth individuals
  • Proven experience in developing institutional relationships. Ability to understand the needs and interests of corporations, foundations and government to develop long-term, strategic relationships.
  • Experience and expertise in developing relationships with major donors and crafting major donor strategies to secure results.
