Know our  team  

Nutrition International’s Program Operations Unit is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of Nutrition International’s core program interventions including program development, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting, and grant management, including setting annual operational planning, budgeting, and review processes. The unit comprises a global team of professionals located in our 10 core countries across Asia, Africa and our headquarters in Ottawa, Canada.

Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for an Intern, Gender Equality to be based in Ottawa, Canada. This position is for a short-term summer contract, with an expected end date of September 30, 2023. 

About the role  

As an Intern, your main purpose will be to support key initiatives within the gender equality portfolio. This will involve assisting with the gender strategy refresh, conducting sex-and-gender-based analyses, and contributing to the development of gender training materials.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide administrative support in organizing and documenting staff consultations.
  • Conduct a desk review of recent evidence and best practices related to gender equality and nutrition outcomes.
  • Analyze and synthesize data in collaboration with the gender working group.
  • Consolidate country reports into summary reports.
  • Assist in the review and translation of existing eCourses.
  • Coordinate the editing and publishing of Gender Training Modules.
  • Participate in weekly meetings as a member of the Program Operations Team.
  • Support ad hoc requests as necessary.

About you  

You are someone who possess or is in near-completion of a post-secondary degree (college or university), with a focus on international development, gender studies, or public health being desirable.  2 years of relevant work experience is preferred, and research work, volunteering, and internships will also be taken into account. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

This position is highly ideal for recent graduates or final-year students in post-secondary or advanced studies looking to get experience in their relevant field. 

You should have excellent writing and notetaking skills, along with experience in qualitative research and report writing. Strong analytical and data synthesis abilities are crucial. Proficiency in software like MS Word, Excel, and email applications is essential, and familiarity with MS SharePoint is a plus. Clear communication, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities are vital for success. Being able to work independently, multitask, meet deadlines under pressure, and having field experience in a developing country or cross-cultural environment are advantageous. Experience with qualitative data analysis software is also a valuable asset.
