Girls Belong Here 2022 Application

Are you a self-identifying woman or girl based in Canada between the ages of 14-24? Are you passionate about gender equality and looking for a leadership opportunity? If your answers are yes, then Plan International Canada’s Girls Belong Here program is for you!

What is Girls Belong Here?
Plan International Canada’s Girls Belong Here (GBH) program is part of a global movement to amplify girls’ voices, advocate for their rights and elevate their position in society. Since 2016, Girls Belong Here has created opportunities for young women to step into leadership roles within various sectors including the government, civil society organizations, and corporate firms, to demonstrate that women have a right to equal opportunity in all industries.

Our previous partners not only include powerful industry leaders like David McKay but also changemakers in the political realm including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. To provide a visual overview, here is a short video of the 2021 Girls Belong Here program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stBH_T9VeyE

What does participation look like?

The Girls Belong Here program offers two types of engagement: Seat Shares and Innovation Hubs. You are welcome to apply for either one.

  • Seat Share Experience: A two-way coaching and knowledge exchange between the organizations’ leaders and youth participants. Youth participants will have the opportunity to provide input on critical areas of work, learn how the organization operates, and build professional connections with industry experts and leaders.
  • Innovation Hub: Half-day collaborative workshops led by partner organizations for a group of youth who work on an area of interest identified by the organization, share their insights, and network with leaders. Youth can participate in more than one Innovation Hub workshop

Is it going to be virtual or in-person?
Girls Belong Here will take a hybrid approach to programming. Plan International Canada’s priority is the safety and comfort of all participants. So, we will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and follow public health recommendations to determine which aspects of programming will be in person.

Whether you participate in person or in online, we are committed to ensuring that you have an enriching experience with opportunities.

When is the program taking place?
This year marks a very special moment for our organization as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the International Day of the Girl. Therefore, Girls Belong Here program will expand to take place at two moments, International Day of the Girl and International Women’s Day, creating room for more voices to be heard! This will offer two cohorts. The first cohort will participate between September and October 2022. The second cohort will participate between February and March 2023. Candidates are welcome to apply for either cohort.

Please note that the Girls Belong Here experience will take place during weekdays and working hours, which may lead to missing work or school. Plan International Canada can provide support letters to your school or employer.
