Global Health Coordinator, Indigenous Local & Global, Cumming School of Medicine

Position Overview

The Office of Indigenous Local & Global in the Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Global Health Coordinator.

The Global Health Coordinator supports the Assistant Dean, Global Health (GH), as well as the GH  Directors, and is responsible for the coordination of GH initiatives, partnerships, and delegations; supporting capacity-building and outreach activities focused on GH education, research, student experiences, and partner engagement.  Reporting to the Manager, GH, the coordinator engages across CSM and with our global partners, serving as a resource to develop and support new initiatives and provide administrative coordination for GH programs. 

This position reports to the Project Manager, ILGH.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Project/Program Management

  • Provides support for the development and submission of research funding applications, ensuring compliance with agency guidelines, and reviewing proposals for strategic content and accuracy
  • In collaboration with GH leadership, assists with developing and executing project plans, identifying risks, and developing action item lists and project status reports
    Collects, reviews, and maintains data related to evaluation and metrics, and program reporting. Analyzes and interprets data and prepares specialized reports for the Assistant Dean, GH, and program partners
  • Compiles, reviews, and maintains project data used in monitoring and reporting Global Health international activities, and works with UC International and other CSM units to ensure reporting deadlines are met and required metrics are provided
  • Works with project teams to contribute ideas and assist with developing evaluation frameworks

Program Administration

  • Remains current on factors that would initiate change, such as University policies and procedures, practices, and technology changes pertaining to international projects and protocols
  • Supports the enactment of a long-range strategic plan for supporting capacity building, international goals, and attainment
  • Support project teams, anticipating their needs, and potential challenges, ensuring appropriate adherence to policy, and responsible stewardship of funds
  • Work collaboratively with Global Health faculty and staff to support and ensure translation between program development and program delivery
  • Assist with the preparation of abstracts, reports, manuscripts, and presentation
  • Prepares written communications including letters of reference, CV updates, Annual Reports, etc.

Global Health Reciprocal Learning Program Support

  • Develops communication tools about the opportunities and value of international learning experiences, outlining how international education programs are integrated into the curriculum, and the process, supports, and requirements
  • Develops program guidance and facilitates group workshops and information sessions to support visiting partners and/or UC faculty and student international travel and program engagement, including pre- and post-travel guidance and advice, training sessions about the process and requirements, and information regarding health, safety, and security risks of international travel for outgoing CSM faculty, staff, and trainees
  • Develops evaluation tools to assess partner and student outcomes
  • Coordinate with UC Immigration, UC Risk Management & UC International to provide Canada Immigration and visa requirements and information for incoming visitors
  • Promotes and provides resources, supports, and services within and across the CSM to build internal capacity in support of international partnerships

Partnership Management

  • Update and maintain records of partner agreements and MOUs, supporting GH program needs, including updating GH leadership and addressing information requests
  • Administer international partner agreements and MOUS, and ensure the UofC is compliant with the agreements
  • Supports the Assistant Dean, Global Health with the facilitation of processes and the articulation of CSM’s international agreements
  • Respond to GH program inquiries, gathering information and drafting responses for GH leadership
  • Distribute agreements and amendments to outside parties, track renewal status and update GH leadership on status
  • Coordinates travel arrangements for project teams, and visitors to Global Health

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field (health, international relations, public or business administration)
  • Experience working with international programs in post secondary settings is an asset Experience working with different cultures, teams, and disciplines, with previous experience and demonstrated successes in fostering a collaborative environment including with students
  • Ability to think strategically and respond quickly to multiple priorities and deadlines. The candidate will have an analytical mind, and the ability to adapt and be creative in addressing complex issues, with an ability to learn and be self-directed
  • Knowledge of U of C and other post-secondary institutional programs, particularly regarding global health programs and resources
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and extracting complex information, with the skill to think logically, identify data anomalies, determine the scope of impact, evaluate risks/consequences, develop creative solutions, act expeditiously; and understand the factors associated with decision-making
  • Good judgment on matters that are sensitive or complex in nature and require confidentiality, analytical skill,  knowing when to act independently or engage leadership, and initiative to execute
  • Ability to maintain composure under heavy workload, frequent interruptions, and conflicting priorities
  • Strong communication skills, including report writing, tactful and clear emails, and verbal presentations, with demonstrated cross cultural communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team or project setting
  • Service-oriented approach in supporting faculty, students, and partners, with the ability to mentor and coach
  • Background in project coordination  and experience managing budgets and preparing project forecasts, processing payments, and overseeing international travel
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, and an awareness and use of course management systems and research management systems, and software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines and to work independently and with a team
