Head of Programs, Africa

Job Description: Cuso International is a leading Canadian NGO working in 12 countries and currently implementing a program portfolio valued at $140 million. Cuso’s main areas of interventions are (i) harnessing the power of volunteerism to achieve the SDGs; (ii) advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls; and (iii) improving access to and quality of economic opportunities for young people.

We are currently seeking a Head of Programs – Africa (HoP – Africa) to lead the development and implementation of high impact programs that deliver transformational changes across Cuso International’s priority geographic areas in Africa. Currently, Cuso International is implementing multiple programs in six countries (Benin, Cameroon, DRC, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Tanzania) having a total value of $60 million. 

The HoP – Africa will ensure that Cuso International maintains a high profile in relevant networks and seek to establish and ensure relationships are built with government, private sector, civil society and donors.
As the ideal candidate, your strong understanding of the international development context in Africa and previous working experience in the country will allow you to ensure the successfully delivery of programs in the region and find new opportunities. You will lead the development of new programs possibilities, in collaboration with the country teams, to grow the presence and the impact of Cuso International in the region. Your high degree of motivation to discover new partnerships and identify new areas where Cuso’s programming can have an impact, will inspire your teams to contribute their ideas and efforts to winning proposals. You are known for your exceptional interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills and have the ability to represent the organization to a variety of audiences including the media, government, private sector, donors and civil society. Proficiency in both English and French is essential. This role will require international travel when needed and in adherence with all applicable safety precautions and protocols. The preferred location of the candidate is Ottawa, Canada and consideration will be given to remote work from other locations within Canada.
