International Aboriginal Youth Internship Initiative (IAYI)

Canada World Youth is proud to participate in the fifth year Pathways to Indigenous Youth Leadership Program in conjunction with the International Aboriginal Youth Internship Initiative (IAYI), funded by Global Affairs Canada.

Guided by Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy and the 94 Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, CWY-JCM’s approach to the program includes collaborating with local Indigenous Community Partners and creating an experience for young people through overseas partnerships. This collaboration, when executed respectfully, can provide youth skills necessary to be successful in life. Leadership, Communication, Gender Equality, Basic Life skills, Environmental Education and Training, Agriculture development and human rights are some of the skills that this program offers.

In 2021, 34 Canadian Indigenous Youth, between the age of 18-26 will participate in an 8-week virtual paid internship. Participants can expect to increase their capacity to address international development issues overseas and use these skills as they return to their communities.
