Manager, Evidence in Action

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Reporting to CanWaCH’s Director, Global Health Impact, the Manager, Evidence in Action is directly responsible for the execution of all tasks under the ‘Evidence in Action’ project – an initiative focused on effective synthesis, dissemination, and uptake of research and evaluation outputs. Leveraging expertise in health research and evaluation, the Manager will coordinate and deliver a variety of strategies targeting a highly technical audience of global and Canadian health researchers and programming specialists. The Manager is able to expertly manage relationships with multi-sectoral partners including academics, civil society partners, students and trainees, and others. The Manager is a ‘doer’, not a ‘delegator’ – with a proactive approach and experience in completing tasks independently. Additionally, the Manager brings a strong understanding of and practical experience in health research and project evaluation, and is interested in how evidence can be effectively leveraged to generate policy and practice change. 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Research, analysis and content development (approx. 70%)

• Gather and synthesize information from partners in CanWaCH’s flagship research initiatives – specifically, the Pan-Canadian Women’s Health Coalition and the Canadian Collaborative for Global Health.
• Draft and format reports, briefs, toolkits, and summaries tailored to the technical needs of global and Canadian health researchers and programming specialists.
• Author digital learning resources including online newsletters and updated web pages containing research and data-related information, events, and resources.
• Undertake targeted literature reviews and research on relevant topics, distilling complex information into concise summaries.

• Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis to support reports, case studies, and learning materials.
• Collaborate with the communications team to develop and disseminate infographics, charts, and data visualizations, and regularly update and maintain online resource libraries.

3. Virtual learning development and convening (approx. 20%)

• Coordinate and facilitate virtual meetings of all stakeholders involved with the Pan-Canadian Women’s Health Coalition and the Canadian Collaborative for Global Health.
• Plan, organize, and promote internal and external technical learning events (such as webinars, research rounds, and technical training workshops) featuring the above partners. This includes coordinating with subject matter experts and prospective audiences, as well as other members of the CanWaCH team.
• Document and share session highlights, key insights, and next steps to enhance the reach and impact of virtual convenings.
• Represent CanWaCH at relevant stakeholder events and produce short syntheses for shared learning when appropriate.

4. In-person learning development and convening (approx. 10%)

• Organize and coordinate logistics for in-person meetings, workshops, or conferences, including program development, vendor liaison, and speaker coordination.
• Assist with the facilitation of interactive, in-person learning experiences, using effective strategies to maximize engagement and retention.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

• Commitment to CanWaCH’s values, vision and mission
• Deep knowledge of core CanWaCH programmatic and policy areas including: global and domestic women and children’s health and rights, international development and/or humanitarian aid
• Experience working within Canadian and/or global health research institutions (ex: as a research or evaluation coordinator)
• Excellent written and verbal skills including writing and conversing with various audiences. Demonstrated experience writing for diverse audiences
• Experience coordinating workshops, webinars, and/or training events, either in person on virtually
• Demonstrated experience analyzing and synthesizing data, literature, and results findings clearly and succinctly
• Knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility principles
• Self-reflection and ability to navigate differences in opinion and difficult conversations  
• Experience operating effectively in a virtual environment 
• Demonstrated experience in project management and meeting management
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with an aptitude for systems or process thinking 
• Exceptional ability to manage multiple activities to tight timelines, with attention to detail and ability to prioritize 
• Demonstrated ease in ability to build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues 
• Demonstrated excellence in ability and willingness to work effectively as a team member 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

• 5+ years of relevant work experience relating to the above requirements
• University degree in relevant field (public health, gender, information management, evaluation, international development). Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

DESIRED SKILLS 

• Fluency in French
• Facilitation and public speaking experience
