WHAT YOU WILL DO
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Impact and Learning, the Manager, Impact and Learning will be responsible for playing a key role in overseeing the implementation of the SLF Impact Assessment Framework (IAF) and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system. They will work closely with our team of Field Representatives, who regularly visit our partners in 15 countries across Africa and act as our eyes, ears, and heart on-the-ground. The Manager, Impact and Learning will also play a role in sharing program learning across the organization. They will be a strategic and imaginative thinker, responsible for seeing a variety of special program initiatives through to successful completion.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact Assessment

  • Manage the implementation and ongoing strengthening of SLF Impact Assessment Framework including identifying priority areas for analysis, reviewing information for emerging trends, ensuring data integrity, and overseeing appropriate software and internal data review processes 
  • In conjunction with the Deputy Director, Impact and Learning, coordinate and oversee evaluations of SLF funding/initiatives. 
  • Oversee the development of the M&E calendar, the implementation of scheduled M&E visits to SLF partners, and the follow-up with the Field Representatives, in close collaboration with the Program Officers 
  • Review M&E reports submitted by Field Representatives to identify emerging themes, trends, challenges and issues; find any common themes emerging around partner capacity and think about capacity sharing opportunities for future roundtables or learning session with partners
  • Receive, review and recommend for approval for all Field Representative expense claims and invoices 
  • Strengthen M&E approach by regularly updating the M&E manual, documenting new policies and processes, creating supplemental training materials and orienting new SLF Field Representatives as needed to be in line with SLF values and policies
  • Organize regular meetings (in person and virtually) with Field Representatives 
  • Work in collaboration with the Senior Manager, Finance & Accounting and Program Officers to prepare M&E budget updates and projections 

Partner Networking Learning and Exchange

  • Develop a systematic approach to address learning priorities across SLF partners through networking, learning and exchange
  • Organize substantive discussions, roundtables, and other meetings

Impact Sharing and Dissemination

  • In collaboration with relevant staff across the organization, contribute impact information to support development, communications, and advocacy priorities 
  • Represent the SLF at various speaking engagements and events 

Special Initiatives 

  • In close collaboration with the Deputy Director, Impact and Learning, help oversee and contribute to a range of SLF programming initiatives 

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

  • 7+ years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the field of international development in Africa, or a related field, including a strong understanding of the intersections of HIV and AIDS, poverty, and gender issues on the continent
  • Progressive and unconventional approach to philanthropy, impact assessment, and evaluation processes that recognize the expertise, capacity, and intelligence powering the grassroots responses to HIV and AIDS in Africa
  • Experience in managing and quantitative data tools and transforming data into easily sharable content 
  • Demonstrated initiative to take the lead on and manage projects
  • Demonstrated record of strategic critical thinking and an imaginative approach to opportunities, issues and challenges
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to actively contribute to a positive, collaborative work environment
  • Personal commitment to the values of anti-colonialism, feminism, solidarity, mutual respect, collaboration, and social justice
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel, databases (e.g. SKY), PowerPoint 
  • Comfort with a fast-paced work environment that requires flexibility, advanced prioritization skills, and outstanding time-management skills
  • Excellent ability to communicate with warmth, professionalism, clarity and tact via written and verbal mediums
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Solid knowledge of, and appreciation for, the varied geographies, cultures, and histories present within Africa
