Job Type: Full-Time, 1 year contract with a possibility of extension
Start Date: January 2023
Work Hours: 37.5-hours per week. *(Flexibility is required to work outside regular office hours if needed.)
Salary: CAD 70K – 80K per annum

ABOUT THE ROLE
Action Against Hunger Canada supports humanitarian response programming across multiple country offices in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Our programs target populations affected by, or at risk of, malnutrition and its underlying causes through emergency nutrition, WASH, and health approaches. We are looking for a Project Manager who will be responsible for supporting our humanitarian programming through the day to day management of projects including monitoring, planning and reporting, to contribute to Canadian institutional donor engagement, and to support Action Against Hunger’s Gender Agenda.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant Management and Administration

  • Establish and coordinate a donor reporting plan for the international projects/programmes.
  • Coordinate and compile reporting across country teams, technical and finance departments, and prepare global reports.
  • Coordinate and consolidate project workplans and budgets. This includes conducting regular follow up to assess overall execution levels.
  • Prepare and coordinate all processes related to sub-contracting for Global Affairs Canada-funded humanitarian projects/programmes.
  • Review Global Affairs Canada funding agreement compliance rules with the Finance and Donor Compliance Manager and provide guidance and ongoing support to Action Against Hunger project teams on their application.
  • Support additional project administration with technical teams as required.

Project Development

  • Lead on the design, preparation, and update of tools and guidance documents for country offices developing humanitarian proposals for Global Affairs Canada.
  • Lead on the planning and development of expressions of interest and concept notes for Global Affairs Canada humanitarian funding.
  • Provide direct support and guidance to specific offices for concept note and proposal preparation and finalization as required.
  • Coordinate and support the induction and compliance workshops for Action Against Hunger Canada and Network teams.
  • Ensure the full alignment of new proposals with donor criteria and requirements.

Knowledge Management and Communications

  • Pro-actively communicate the SitReps, publications, technical assessments, achievements, and successes of Action Against Hunger in countries receiving or pursuing Global Affairs Canada funding.
  • Coordinate internally and support the production of external communications materials relating to humanitarian programming including for the organization’s website, social media and other platforms.
  • Pro-actively communicate the achievements and successes of Action Against Hunger and its funded programs with donors and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of a program information management system.

Project Implementation

  • Maintain regular contact with Action Against Hunger HQs and country teams regarding project progress, local context and challenges faced.
  • Coordinate responses to the donor on project questions that arise during the life of the project.
  • Coordinate communications with selected donor representatives as delegated.
  • Review and provide quality control to all documentation submitted to the donor relating to the project (reporting, informal updates, modification requests).
  • Ensure the development and application of internal monitoring tools for grant management in collaboration with Action Against Hunger Canada and the International Network staff.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning

  • Support the development and implementation of an appropriate monitoring and evaluation plan, based on humanitarian and gender transformative, empowerment and people-centred principles.
  • Develop, implement and oversee data collection instruments and conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection. 
  • Develop templates to document learning including dissemination plans.
  • Organize Monitoring and Evaluation visits in coordination with country offices for Action Against Huger Canada staff.
  • Promote Action Against Hunger Safeguarding and Gender Equality Policies and Practices.
  • Ensure organizational Safeguarding and Gender Equality Policies are applied across all facets of work.
  • Provide specific gender and safeguarding advice to projects in the proposal development process.

General

  • Attend planning sessions, team meetings and annual performance reviews as required.
  • Pro-active exchange and collaboration with Action Against Hunger Canada and the International Network staff.
  • Ensure an on-going process of personal professional development and learning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant field related to social sciences, development, nutrition or gender studies, and/or equivalent experience gained.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with an international organization in a project management or leadership position.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant management, budgetary oversight, proposal development, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Global Affairs Canada funding and grant agreements.
  • Previous experience working within a humanitarian/development, gender, or nutrition program.
  • Previous experience working internationally (field work) for a humanitarian/development organization.
  • Fluency in English and French (C1/C2 equivalent) in both oral and written communications

  • Commitment to Gender Equality and GBV risk mitigation/protection.
  • Understanding of the creation of an enabling environment for gender equality and Safeguarding in the workplace and in programming.
  • Understanding and commitment to humanitarian principles including the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS).
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Applications, specifically Microsoft Excel.
  • Fluency in Spanish in both oral and written communications would be considered an asset.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Office setting or work from home.
  • Required to be seated whilst completing computer and desk-based tasks for long periods.
  • Occasional travel to Action Against Hunger international field offices and program locations.
