ABOUT THE ROLE

The Prospect Research Officer and Fundraising Assistant plays a key role in identifying potential donors and increasing their financial support to the mission of SOS Children’s Villages Canada.   You will provide practical, ongoing support to the Leadership Giving Team, lead our prospect research, and maintain database and fundraising information systems.

Reporting to the Director of Leadership Giving, the Prospect Research Officer and Fundraising Assistant’s key success indicator will be the growth and management of our donor pipeline and overall support to Leadership Giving fundraisers working with individual and corporate donors across Canada.

You will perform proactive and ongoing research to identify potential donors and maintain data on existing donors.  You will contribute to the refinement of existing prospect management systems and utilization of RENXT by the team.  The role will contribute to the implementation and promotion of Peer to Peer (P2P) digital fundraising platforms and support the fundraising team to steward and engage individual donors and corporate partners.  

The ideal candidate for this role is a systems-focused, enthusiastic team player.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conducting thorough research to develop high-quality and well-written profiles on individuals, corporations/businesses, foundations and any other organization that will support SOS Canada’s fundraising activities, with a focus on major and corporate gifts
• Employing a range of tools for identifying and qualifying prospects, including data mining and relationship mapping, and craft persuasive rationales for qualifying prospects
• Conducting ad-hoc news searches as required for due diligence on potential partners
• Updating donor records with information obtained through prospect research, and ensure that all donor and prospect records are kept up to date and accurate in the donor database
• Participating in planning sessions and team meetings, and suggesting new best practices, tools and techniques
• Demonstrating a commitment to excellent client service and professionalism.
• Providing systems support to fundraisers on third party community and corporate peer-to-peer fundraising events/campaigns, including creating and promoting online fundraising resources, materials and guides and supporting volunteers to create and deliver fundraising plans
• Ensure all notes, calls, emails, opportunities, meetings, and events are entered into Raiser’s Edge NXT in a timely and accurate fashion.
• Providing administrative and event support to the Leadership Giving Team
• Maintaining and improving Leadership Giving systems and processes.
• Contribute to a culture of professional philanthropy by ensuring that team members and volunteers are properly briefed and prepared in advance of any contacts to support their cultivation or solicitation activities and provide support with their calls or face-to-face meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 2 years of non-profit experience, with a preferred focus on prospect research, administration and/or leadership giving fundraising
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience
• Proficiency with database management and using CRM donor database (Raiser’s Edge experience advantageous)
• Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communications in English
• Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships and providing high-quality customer/donor services
• creating professional presentations
• Ability to problem solve and take initiative
• Proven success in driving projects through to completion
• Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

• Demonstrated experience supporting the development and delivery of stewardship and cultivation events
• Proficiency with Peer to Peer (P2P) fundraising platforms and design tools (Canva, Photoshop)
• Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communications in French
• International experience and working knowledge of additional languages desirable
• Proficiency with database management and using CRM donor database (Raiser’s Edge experience advantageous)
